WWE 2K's Last Nintendo Game Finally Performs As Intended on Switch 2, Fans Rejoice
2K Sports
  • Switch 2 owners have discovered the Switch version of WWE 2K18 actually runs well on Nintendo's new console.
  • While the game hasn't received an official update, the more powerful hardware is better equipped at handling the game.
  • 2K has promised its WWE games will return to Nintendo consoles soon via a Switch 2 version of WWE 2K25.

WWE 2K gave the Nintendo Switch a try during the console's launch year in 2017, and to put it mildly, it didn't go well. WWE 2K18 ran so poorly on the Switch that 2K hasn't released another mainline WWE game on the console since. Now that the Switch 2 is here, not only has the studio confirmed WWE 2K25 will be returning to a Nintendo console, but its previous, almost eight-year-old game is actually playable now.

Seven Years Later, WWE 2K18 Actually Works On The Switch 2

While a handful of Switch games have received official updates, both paid and free, pretty much all games, even ones that haven't received official updates, run better on Nintendo's new console. Shockingly, that even includes WWE 2K18. While it isn't the first game Switch 2 owners would have been reaching for, those eager to test the original Switch's worst games wanted to see what its more powerful younger sibling is capable of.

WWE 2K18 ran slower than the same game on other consoles, it was riddled with bugs, and certain wrestler entrances crashed the game. The very definition of unplayable, and somehow even worse than the disastrous WWE 2K20 launch two years later. Wrestling fans have taken to Reddit to let others know that the game actually looks good and plays well now, urging them to dig out a copy if they still have one and take it for a spin on Switch 2.

Check Out Just How Well WWE 2K18 Runs On Switch 2

If you don't have a Switch 2 and an OG Switch copy of WWE 2K18 handy (because why would you?), YouTuber RGT 85 included it in a video where they tested what are considered to be the worst Switch games on the Switch 2. WWE 2K18 is among them, and as you can see, it looks good. Sure, it's no WWE 2K25, but even at its best, this is still a seven-year-old game developed for what is now last-generation hardware.

There are some issues with WWE 2K18 that the Switch 2 can't fix. The servers have been ffline for years, for example, which means it can only be played offline. It has also been delisted from the Nintendo eShop, so if you don't already own it but you want a functioning wrestling game to play between now and WWE 2K25's arrival on Switch 2, you'll need to track down a physical copy. Now let's hope WWE 2K25 isn't so advanced that it can't run on the Switch 2 and we have to wait seven more years for a playable Nintendo WWE game on Switch 3.
