WWE Almost Went With Hilarious Idea For 2025 Royal Rumble Winner
WWE

WWE's creative team nearly pitched Chelsea Green to win the women's Royal Rumble match earlier this year in a segment that would have had fans in stitches.

The SmackDown star is one of the promotion's most beloved villains due to her 'Karen-like' gimmick, in which she often cheats her way to victory. She wouldn't have needed to do so on this occasion, though, as one of the writing team proposed a unique finish to the Rumble match.

WWE's Hilarious Royal Rumble Pitch For Chelsea Green

WWE are breaking the fourth wall regarding their storytelling and giving fans an insight into the writing process of Paul 'Triple H' Levesque's creative team. The new Netflix show WWE: Unreal has delved into how stories such as John Cena's heel turn are put in place.

One episode of the new show features a group of writers discussing who should win the women's Royal Rumble, which took place back in February. Charlotte Flair, who won the match, was initially pitched on the basis of a comeback story.

One of the company's main writers, Ed Koskey, interjected and came up with a comedic victory for Chelsea Green:

"You get entrant 29 in there. They come in, and there's only two women. They end up doing a double elimination. So whoever's number 30 automatically wins. Chelsea Green."

The room laughed in response to the suggestion as he continued:

"(She) walks down, goes (into the ring). Wins the Royal Rumble."

Levesque nodded with a smirk on his face before telling the group that they'd "figure something out". It appears any plans for Green to become the first-ever Rumble winner without needing to eliminate a single competitor were shelved and the pitch of Charlotte winning on her return was given the green light.

The 34-year-old lasted around 26 minutes in the Rumble before mistakenly being eliminated by her ally Piper Niven. This came during her 132-day title reign as the inaugural WWE Women's United States Champion.

Chelsea Green Wants To Be The First 'Female Cena or Rock'

WWE have worked with several celebrities during the start of the TKO era, including American rapper and singer Jelly Roll, who will team up with Randy Orton in a SummerSlam tag team match against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre this Saturday (August 2). This comes after Travis Scott's controversial appearance in John Cena and Cody Rhodes' WrestleMania 41 main event.

Cena and The Rock are two of the biggest stars not only in WWE but in the entertainment business altogether. They have made it in Hollywood, and that's a goal Chelsea Green has in mind (via SES Scoops):

"In the next five years I hope to be the first female John Cena and Rock not in terms of I don’t need to be that high like that’s that’s pretty incredible right but like I would like to be the crossover talent for the females (because) we haven’t really seen that yet."

Green returned to WWE at the 2023 Royal Rumble after initially being released in April 2021 during the end of Vince McMahon's regime. She has since become a fan favorite with her promo work and acting especially in verbal duels with RAW general manager Adam Pearce.
