WWE Announces Championship Steel Cage Match for SmackDown

WWE is putting championship gold on the line inside a steel cage this Friday night.

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced that United States Champion Trick Williams will defend his title against Baron Corbin inside a Steel Cage Match on the September 25 episode of WWE SmackDown in Indianapolis. WWE has since officially added the match to Friday’s lineup.

The stipulation is the latest development in a rivalry that has already seen the United States Championship change hands twice.

Corbin defeated Williams for the championship at SummerSlam before Trick regained the title at Sunday Night’s Main Event. Their issues continued afterward, including Corbin attacking Williams and Lil Yachty with a kendo stick on SmackDown.

Now WWE is putting them inside a cage.

The match also comes at an interesting time for Williams. The United States Champion has already qualified for the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match after defeating Randy Orton and Rey Fenix in a Triple Threat qualifier last week.
