WWE appears to be making some changes to its content. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the X (previously known as Twitter) series, WWE Speed, is no more. What’s even stranger is that WWE has yet to announce its official demise, though industry insiders have already said the web series is done.

So what Happened To Speed?

According to Meltzer, in his newsletter, via Sports Illustrated, he sent out questions regarding the fast-paced show, and from what he gathered from those connected to WWE, the show is over. There was no explanation, though one of the possibilities was that their deal with X had expired.

"It appears WWE Speed is gone. They haven’t been taping new episodes, and the titles have been forgotten. The deal with X probably expired. Whether it will be renewed or brought back isn’t clear. Those we’ve asked haven’t known one way or the other, basically giving the impression it was so insignificant that nobody has talked about it. There was no official word one way or the other."

It also doesn’t help that the official X account for Speed hasn’t been updated since February. Though the final episode was on July 9, the Women’s Speed Champion Sol Ruca retained her title over Alba Fyre. The Men’s Champion is El Grande Americano, who has held the title since May. It seems that, like Sol Ruca, he will be the last ever champion.

A little WWE Speed History

Speed made its debut on X on April 3, 2024. The premise was that matches had a three-minute limit. The first match saw former WWE Superstar Ricochet defeat Dragon Lee. Ricochet was actually the first WWE Speed Champion. He, of course, has since left WWE to go to AEW.

The first Women’s Speed Champion was Candice LeRae, who won the title after defeating IYO SKY by hitting her signature Lionsault. The win would mark LeRae’s first singles title in WWE. Speed is not the first web show that the company canceled. For those who remember when there was a WWE Network, there was 205 Live and NXT UK, though those were longer shows and didn’t air on a social media network. Nevertheless, WWE shows will always come and go unless it's WWE RAW or SmackDown.
