In an epic rematch from WrestleMania 41 earlier this year, John Cena will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam in New Jersey. And by the looks of it, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H can’t wait for it. ‘The Game’ took to X to promote the match and unveiled a brand-new poster to underscore the hype.
Their showdown is expected to headline the proceedings on Sunday, August 3, to close out the first-ever two-night edition of ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer’. The duo featured in the main event back in Las Vegas as well, and what a pity it was! Cena vs. Rhodes I was marred by an underwhelming interference by The Rock-backed Travis Scott to make sure the now 17-time Champion left the Allegiant Stadium with the WWE title belt.
And that’s exactly what happened. Even though there were no traces of ‘The Final Boss’ in there, his rapper-friend did just the right amount of damage to rob Rhodes of the title. When the dust settled on that shenanigans-heavy bout, the wrestling pundits and fans lashed out at WWE for booking such a mess.

The Rock also faced the music of an irate wrestling fanbase that was livid at him allegedly throwing Triple H under the bus after his abrupt exit from the storyline. After experiencing an unprecedented uproar against him that WrestleMania weekend, ‘The Great One’ hopped on Pat McAfee‘s show to explain his side of the story.
‘The Brahma Bull’ said he didn’t want to take the spotlight away from Cena, who went on to script history by winning his seventeenth world title in his final year of professional wrestling. Rhodes, however, bit the bullet. But he’s more disappointed by the fact that his dream bout with ‘The Franchise Player’ went down in flames.
Holding oneself accountable despite not having cruise control over the entire situation is a trait that barely anyone possesses. However, Cody Rhodes falls in that razor-thin category. During a recent appearance on the Busted Open Radio podcast, the 40-year-old took the onus upon himself for his showdown against John Cena not living up to the expectations.
But the ex-AEW EVP is hellbent on turning it around at SummerSlam. He wants to prove to the annoyed fanbase that he’s got a way better match in him against ‘The Cenation Leader’. Cena and Rhodes have shared the ring one more time since WrestleMania.
Cody Rhodes says that he wants to get fans who weren’t satisfied with the main event of WrestleMania 41 to the finish line at SummerSlam next month:

Back in June at Money in the Bank, ‘The American Nightmare’ pinned the ‘Last Real Champion’ in a tag team match with Jey Uso on Rhodes’ side and Logan Paul partnering with the Hollywood mogul. It was exactly where Ron “R-Truth” Killings made his WWE return merely a week after getting released. He went right after his so-called childhood hero, and Rhodes did the rest.
On this week’s pre-taped edition of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes kicked off the show. He had that King of the Ring crown by himself that he won after beating Randy Orton at Night of Champions last Saturday. ‘The Viper’ soon interrupted ‘The Prodigal Son’ and regurgitated how badly he wanted to be the one to hold that KOTR crown.
‘The Legend Killer’ also mulled over the fact that he hesitated in clocking Rhodes with a vicious punt kick even though he had the latter perfectly lined up for it. But Rhodes didn’t falter when he saw an opening to drive Orton shoulder-first into an exposed turnbuckle.

Even though it might’ve appeared somewhat unethical, ‘The Apex Predator’ asserted that he respected Rhodes for pulling the trigger. All that said, the 14-time World Champion asked his former stablemate to promise him that he’ll kick “John Cena’s a**” at SummerSlam.
