WWE fills wrestling fans with historical matches between two of the greatest wrestlers in the professional wrestling industry. With so many storylines and rivalries that go on, it’s sometimes challenging to give the fans every wrestling match they want to see. Unfortunately, there would be times when it’s too late to witness some dream matches due to careers coming to abrupt ends at certain occasions. Here are some dream matches in WWE that fans never got to see.
Rey Mysterio and Triple H may have been involved in plenty of multi-person matches, but never one against each other. The most interactions they had in the ring were in the 2006 Royal Rumble, where both men started the match. Another in-ring interaction between the two legends included a tag team match alongside another WWE Hall of Famer, Edge, against Chris Jericho, CM Punk, and Luke Gallows.
Even during Mysterio and Triple H’s prime, it wasn’t a guarantee that these two Hall of Famers would go at it, as they were always part of different brands, such as RAW and SmackDown.
Batista and Brock Lesnar were part of the memorable OVW Class of 2002 that involved John Cena, Randy Orton, and many more. They did have a match in OVW, WWE’s once developmental center, but it wasn’t what it seemed. During that time in development, Batista portrayed the character named Leviathan. That character would face Brock Lesnar and even score a victory over the beast.
Both men achieved so much in their careers that fans still wonder what might’ve happened if they clashed at their peak. There was a tease in 2014, when Batista won the Royal Rumble and Brock Lesnar wanted a shot against then WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Randy Orton, as well.
If there were a match that the WWE Universe dreamed of seeing, it would be Shawn Michaels against Eddie Guerrero. What would’ve been an interpromotional match, Michaels and Guerrero were initially booked to have this possible historic match at WrestleMania 22. Unfortunately, the match never got to happen because Eddie Guerrero passed away at such a young age.
Their respect for one another would’ve brought such a great story where WWE would have built it as “Mr. WrestleMania” versus “Latino Heat”. The two Texan wrestlers would have stolen the show with their in-ring psychology and the possible angles WWE could’ve created.
Much like the other dream matches mentioned, a bout between The Rock and Randy Orton was possible for fans to witness. In 2004, Rock and Orton were in a tag team match, but on opposing sides. Rock paired with Mick Foley, while Orton teamed up with Batista and Ric Flair. There would be segments between these two polarizing stars the rest of ’04, but a match never came to fruition.
Rock was already on his way out the door for his acting career, while Orton was rising to the top of his wrestling career by becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion, ever.
This dream match should not be ruled out, as The Rock makes sporadic appearances and Randy Orton is still with the WWE. WWE can build a storyline as Orton is an ally with The Rock’s current top rival, Cody Rhodes.
A match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena in their WWE, while both in their primes, would’ve been memorable for everyone. Both men came from different eras, as Austin was WWE’s top guy in the Attitude Era, while John Cena was the rising top star in the Ruthless Aggression Era, officially standing on top during WWE’s PG Era.
Only a few interactions happened, with one where Austin hit Cena with a Stone Cold Stunner, which was a rare moment in WWE. Although these two greats were in different times, it still would be a huge what-if for one of Vince McMahon’s biggest creations to headline a WrestleMania.
