Bully Ray has given an intriguing take on the 'weird feeling' surrounding Seth Rollins' injury heading into WWE SummerSlam this weekend.
Rollins tweaked his knee in a singles match against LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12, forcing a quick finish with the megastar hitting Mr Money in the Bank with an awkward BFT. Clips went viral of the Visionary frustratingly being helped to the back, and reports had claimed the injury was legitimate.
There are those who speculate that the 39-year-old's knee problem may be a ruse and that it's part of an angle that sees him return at SummerSlam to cash in his briefcase. His longtime rival, CM Punk, is challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship on Saturday (August 2).
Rollins isn't scheduled to appear at SummerSlam as a result of his injury, but his stablemates are set to be in action. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed face the returning Roman Reigns and Jey Uso in a tag team match on night one. The duo and Paul Heyman have been without their leader since the incident occurred earlier this month.
Ray gave his thoughts on the situation and admitted that he feels something isn't quite right regarding the former World Heavyweight Champion's injury. He said on Busted Open Radio:
"There's a weird feeling in the air. Something's odd about this injury. Something is not jiving. I can't put my finger on it. Here's what I do know, I've never felt this way about an injury before."
This wouldn't be the first time WWE have pulled a fake injury angle for storyline purposes, but Rollins has a history of knee problems. The two-time Money in the Bank winner suffered an ACL tear in 2015 and also tore the meniscus in his left knee in January 2024.
One report suggested that the RAW star headed into Saturday Night's Main Event already dealing with an injury, and this angle was used to write him off TV. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this was planned in advance to pull off a shock return and cash in at SummerSlam.
Ray spoke of how well Rollins and his wife, Becky Lynch, are doing, making the injury feel legitimate with videos of him wearing a knee brace. He also highlighted the former Shield member's interview, in which he discussed popping his knee.
The WWE Hall of Famer is excited to see how the storyline pans out if it turns out to be part of a master plan echoing WrestleMania 31's 'Heist of the Century'. He envisions a cash-in occurring at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday:
"The last ditch Go To Sleep is enough to knock out Gunther, but it knocks out Punk as well because it took all the energy in the world just to get it. Both guys go down, flops one arm over, one, two, three. [Punk] can't get up, can't even get up to get the championship. They have to help him to his feet just to hand him the championship that he never gets his hands on because Seth Rollins' music hits and he cashes in."
Rollins had just won the Money in the Bank briefcase a month prior and was helping build his new stable after aligning with Heyman at WrestleMania 41. He became the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion two years ago and would become a two-time champion, should he cash in as Ray suggested, while also continuing his year-long feud with Punk.
