WWE Legend Raises Concerns Over Jey Uso Ahead Of SummerSlam

Tommy Dreamer has explained why he feels Jey Uso's appearance on RAW this week may suggest WWE are starting to lose faith in him as a top star.

Triple H attached a rocket to Jey earlier this year by having him win the Royal Rumble match and defeat Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41. He held the title for 51 days before dropping it back to the Ring General, and Dreamer thinks there's cause for concern after events that went down on RAW this week.

Tommy Dreamer Wonders If WWE Still See Jey Uso As A Top Act

Jey Uso is in action this Saturday (August 2) at SummerSlam when he teams up with former Bloodline leader Roman Reigns against Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. It's one of the high-profile matches of the weekend and keeps the former world champion around the main event picture.

The 39-year-old appeared on RAW this week and got into a heated exchange with Paul Heyman. But he didn't enter through the crowd for his entrance as he usually would, something that puzzled Dreamer.

The former ECW Champion has questioned whether WWE's higher-ups still consider Jey a top-tier talent. He said on SiriusXM Busted Open:

"I'm getting concerned. I do not know why Jey Uso did not come in through the crowd, not once, but twice tonight. I know he came in kind of from the side. Are they not seeing this guy as this top act?

Jey's meteoric rise as a singles star has been reflected in merchandise sales and his 'Yeet' catchphrase going viral in popular culture. He has been used heavily in marketing since breaking away from the Bloodline and becoming 'Main Event Jey'.

Dreamer was impressed with the promo Jey cut after making his entrance, in which he passionately spoke about "pulling up" for his family:

"Jey's promo was pure fire, he was spitting facts and he was spitting truth. If I'm grading it, it's an A from both players and both got me hyped."

Jey usually does enter through the crowd, and his entrances have made for iconic moments thanks to his interaction with fans. It should be noted that the previous segment saw the roster pay tribute to the late Hulk Hogan on the ramp, and this may have scuppered production's time to organise said entrance.

WWE's Original SummerSlam Plans For Jey Uso Revealed

Jey wasn't even on last year's SummerSlam card, as he was still finding his feet in singles competition, but he has since been involved in several high-profile matches on PLEs. His win over Gunther for his first world title opened WrestleMania 41, and he successfully defended the title against Logan Paul in the main event of Saturday Night's Main Event (May 24).

Dave Meltzer claimed on Wrestling Observer Radio (via WhatCulture) that Jey had been set for a singles match against Bronson Reed at this year's SummerSlam until plans changed. He instead faced the Tsunami monster on RAW this week, winning by disqualification after he was hit by a spear by the interfering Bron Breakker.

Seth Rollins' injury at July's Saturday Night's Main Event may have changed WWE's plans as he'll instead team with Reigns against Rollins' lackeys. It's thought that either this match or Gunther defending the World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk will main event night one of the biggest party of the summer.
