WWE Legend Tells Tony Khan How to Counter WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia

WWE officially announced last Friday that WrestleMania 43 will be held in Saudi Arabia. Fan reaction (at least in the U.S.) has been mostly negative.

Discussing this on Busted Open, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray gave advice to Tony Khan on how he should counter WWE: host a major AEW event the same day in the United States.

Why Tony Khan Needs to Listen To This

Of all the suggestions wrestling legends have made online about how Tony Khan needs to run his business, this is the best one I have heard yet. If he was not already planning to do this, Tony Khan needs to listen to Uncle Bully and move on this ASAP.

I fully expect WWE to host domestic WrestleMania viewing events around the country, probably hitting most major cities, in an attempt to generate more revenue and keep U.S. fans engaged. But the one thing WWE has boxed itself out of doing is hosting a live wrestling show in the U.S. during WrestleMania weekend — at least at the scale fans are used to.

From a ticket standpoint, AEW has nothing to lose. If wrestling fans are presented with the choice of traveling domestically to watch WrestleMania on a giant screen or see a live wrestling show in the United States, what are they going to choose?

Exactly.

Plus, all of the wrestling-related events that normally happen in the host city of WrestleMania would have a home.

Here's the big win for Khan: a move like this would endear the hearts of wrestling fans towards Khan and AEW. He would instantly be able to restore the love the wrestling community had for AEW in 2019, when Vince McMahon was still running WWE.

In the eyes of fans, this is by far the worst move of the Triple H and TKO era. If Khan can secure a stadium venue (perhaps one WWE has hosted a WrestleMania at before) on the exact same days as WrestleMania and go head-to-head, it will be the biggest business move of AEW's history.

As a lifelong WWE fan who has never missed a WrestleMania, I would skip and travel to AEW's show on WrestleMania 43 weekend instead.
