WWE Might Finally Be Bringing Back This Iconic WCW PPV
WCW

It's taken them a while, but WWE has gradually brought back most of WCW's biggest PPVs after Vince McMahon bought his competition in 2001. One of the only major WCW PPV names WWE still hasn't used is Superbrawl, but a recent trademark filing suggests that's all about to change.

WWE Trademark Filing Implies WCW Superbrawl Is Getting A Revival

According to SI, WWE filed an application to trademark the term Superbrawl with the United States Patent & Trademark Office earlier this week, on July 22. WWE presumably owned the Superbrawl trademark at some point after acquiring WCW, but needed to renew the trademark after neglecting to use it in the 24 years between absorbing WCW and now.

As it stands, WWE hasn't shown any indication outside of filing a trademark for the PPV name that it plans on reviving Superbrawl. It is odd that WWE has never done anything with it, though. Superbrawl was one of the biggest shows on the WCW calendar for pretty much the promotion's entire run, airing annually from 1991 until the final Superbrawl in 2001.

WWE Has Gradually Brought Back Most Of WCW's Biggest PPVs

Superbrawl is pretty much the last WCW PPV standing when it comes to names WWE has adopted to use as its own. It took WWE a while to warm up to using them at all at first, probably because Vince McMahon didn't want to admit that the company that came closest to defeating WWE had any good ideas.

Great American Bash managed to slip through the cracks and was the only WCW PPV name that made the jump to WWE early on. However, quite a few of them have been revived in recent years, most of them being used in NXT, just so WWE can remind its non-existent rivals that it still thinks its PPVs are lesser than almost two and a half decades later.

Halloween Havoc, Starrcade, and Bash at the Beach have all been brought back. Triple H has also warmed up to the idea of WarGames enough that it has effectively become the Survivor Series gimmick. It is a very different version of WarGames than was used in WCW though, because, again, WWE couldn't possibly admit WCW might have had a good idea 30 years ago.

Bearing all of that in mind, if there's a reason for this Superbrawl trademark renewal, the most likely place it's going to show up is in NXT. There is also a chance WWE goes the Starrcade route and slaps it on a random live event to make it seem more special to help sell tickets.
