WWE NXT had its Roadblock go-home show on March 4. The show ultimately featured a major title change, which came as a shock to many.

At the top of the card, there was an NXT North American Championship match. That is the match that ultimately produced a new champion within the ranks of WWE.

#ANDNEW: Shawn Spears as NXT North American Champion

Shawn Spears defeated Tony D’Angelo to become the new NXT North American Champion. This came as a result of their respective stables getting involved and inadvertently causing D’Angelo to suffer a back injury.

This was D’Angelo’s first reign with the NXT North American Championship, and it lasted 147 days. This effectively makes him the eighth-longest titleholder in the championship’s history.

For Spears, this marks the first piece of WWE gold that he holds in his career. This is despite this ultimately being his third stint with the WWE. Spears now kicks off his reign as the 24th holder in the title’s nearly seven-year history.
