WWE Raw On Netflix: Seth Rollins & Members of ‘The Vision’ Take Out Roman Reigns

The WWE trucks took the short drive over the Brooklyn Bridge from MetLife Stadium (the host for the first-ever two-night Summer Slam) to Barclays Stadium, where tonight’s RAW emanates following last night’s return of Brock Lesnar just before the credits were about to roll. FightsATW touched on the significance of Lesnar’s return in a Monday column, but any reasoning for Lesnar’s attack on John Cena (despite losing to Cody Rhodes, whom Brock just walked past) and Cena’s feelings on it will have to wait until Friday.

Still, Monday provided the opportunity to thoroughly explore the temperature of the red brand following what is being dubbed the “ruse of the century,” a reference to Cole’s ‘heist of the century’ line that he used to call Rollins’ previous cash-in 10 years prior at WrestleMania. The direction coming out of SummerSlam always has deeper implications for the remainder of the year, though the ‘RAW-After’ rarely delivers on future directions in a vacuum.

The Visionary And His Visions, Bad Breakker Upper

Seth Rollins was still floating on the clouds he left SummerSlam on, this time with a gold-plated, black leather carry-on in the form of the heavyweight championship. Before hearing from Seth, we got the intro from Paul Heyman, who talked up Seth’s masterful plan and precise execution.

What was noteworthy was Bron Breakker’s place during the promo, or just before, as he stayed mostly deadpanned despite the celebratory vibes in the ring. Breakker gave Seth a one-armed hug and paced back and forth with a disillusioned stare to match his disgruntled mug. There was nothing overtly wrong with Breakker’s actions, but his body language spoke volumes.

It is worth remembering that just last week, Breakker was actively planning to ‘take over’ in the absence created by Rollins’s injury. Furthermore, Rollins admitted that only two people in the world knew the exact extent of his injury (or lack thereof): his wife Becky Lynch and Paul Heyman. That means neither Reed nor Breakker was aware of Seth’s plans designed around a bogus, lengthy injury claim.

LA Knight came out to confront Rollins, claiming he knew he needed to ‘get himself to Brooklyn’ when he watched SummerSlam and realized the company’s new heavyweight champion is no longer injured and owes him a match. So, it was not a shocker when GM Adam Pearce booked the title match for the main event.

Rollins needs to keep the troops happy right now because working with the boys has repercussions, and who knows how easy it will be for Breakker to just forget about his plans.

Seth Rollins (c) vs LA Knight—Heavyweight Title

LA Knight benefited from having the weekend off as he started this match off hot and maintained momentum for the better part of the match’s first half of the match. Rollins tried to pick his spots to build on, but Knight was quick with the reversals.

The singles title match eventually turned ‘hardcore’ as Rollins exposed the concrete outside of the ring to deliver a curb stomp to Knight. However, Punk saved Knight just in time to prevent the spot, but Punk also caused the DQ, and Knight went right after Punk, who was laser-focused on Rollins.

The numbers eventually overwhelmed Punk and Knight after Rollins’ reinforcements made their way to the ring—Breakker cutting Punk in half with a spear on his way to the ring. It looked like Rollins and co. would end RAW on top, but Roman Reigns’ music hit just as they were halfway up the ramp. Roman managed to clear a path to Rollins, but the champ slid out of the ring and allowed Breakker and Reed to gain control.

With Punk out, Roman was left on the bad end of several Tsunami splashes from Reed—who had another pair of Roman’s shoes and now holds two “Shoe-La-Falas.” A potential goodbye angle for Roman and Punk could leave a hole in booking for the upcoming Paris show, but Rollins runs RAW for right now.

Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Dragon Lee—Non-Title

Mysterio picked up the ‘sort of clean’ win over AJ last night in a successful defense of his IC title. Though Dom paid tribute to Eddie Guerrero by attempting to cheat throughout the match. He finally succeeded with his boot, but that is as clean as The Judgement Day victories get these days.

Mysterio continued his cheating ways over Dragon Lee during their match, but he was claiming to be the ‘King of the Luchas’ backstage before the bout. The match was entertaining, but it turned into a gimmicked schmoz as three different El Grande Americanos interfered in the match before Dom was able to retain with the assistance.

Becky-Bella: Just In The Nikk of Time

Becky Lynch retained her Intercontinental title against Lyra Valkyria at Summer Slam, and that means that Lyra is no longer allowed to challenge for the IC title as long as Becky holds it. That, plus the fact that Bayley interfered in the match in a blundering attempt to aid Lyra, were the reasons that the former IC champion shut down any apology attempts from Bayley.

When Becky came out to deliver her ‘winner’s promo,’ she was cut off by Nikki Bella, who returned earlier this Summer but has been limited in her booking to say the least. This is due to the fact that she was to work with Liv Morgan before an injury derailed those plans.

Nikki initially came out by telling Becky how she believed in her as the future, but then admitted that Becky had been a disappointment. Nikki played up the ‘Becky-Hogan’ angle by accusing her of burying Lyra. Becky responded by reminding Nikki that her scenes were cut from the new “Happy Gilmore 2” currently streaming on Netflix—a film in which Becky is featured as a major character.

Then, Nikki ‘went there with it’ by calling Becky a “liar” like her husband (Seth Rollins), making sure to note the difference—Seth fooled everyone, and nobody believes Becky. Becky did not stand for that and told her to keep her “hot husband’s name” out of her mouth because they were the ‘greatest wrestling couple of all-time.’ That is when Becky chose to comment on Nikki’s past place on that list when her very public relationship with John Cena was put on full display.

Becky told Nikki she would be in her and Seth’s spot, but she said, “You can’t see him” anymore, while making the Cena hand gesture. The crowd popped huge, and the show finally delivered on that Nikki feud, perhaps a PLE too late. Becky clocked Nikki to end the segment after Nikki asked why they’d never faced off before, likely leading to a title match.

Other Tidbits/In-Ring Action

  • Rusev and Sheamus were in singles action that never ended tonight. After attempting to get this feud over to no avail, the two were booked to pull off a Reed-Strowman battle around the building’s angles.
  • Gunther is reported to be out for some time, dealing with an injury following his title-losing effort against CM Punk
  • Method Man and Dave East (one of the best lyricists in the game) were in attendance, as was former rapper and current global podcast star Joe Budden. The cast of “Wednesday” season 2 (debuting on Netflix this month) was also in tonight’s crowd.
