This weekend will mark the beginning of a very busy period for WWE. It begins with Night Of Champions, which is still going ahead despite the ongoing issues between the US and the Middle East, Evolution and Saturday Night's Main Event will follow, and then it's a beeline to the first-ever two-night SummerSlam.
Between all of those events and this year's SummerSlam quite literally being the biggest in WWE history, it's going to be all hands on deck. That means WWE is calling on everyone available to make this summer the best that it possibly can be, especially those at the top of the card, which is why reports are starting to circulate suggesting Roman Reigns is preparing to make a comeback.
That's according to WrestleVotes. The insider, who has a pretty good track record when it comes to sharing backstage news about WWE, claims plans for Reigns' return are tentatively being planned, and considering the timing, the most likely landing spot for Reigns will be SummerSlam. Or right before SummerSlam so that he can be inserted into a high-profile match during the two-night event.
It seems that time of year again—Roman Reigns’ return is on the horizon. Sources indicate his name has popped up internally in recent weeks, typically signaling the wheels are in motion for a return heading into the biggest party of the summer.— WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) June 26, 2025
Reigns has been working a part-time schedule for a while and hasn't been seen since WrestleMania 41. The Tribal Chief competed in a triple threat match, arguably the best match of the weekend, during which Paul Heyman betrayed him and CM Punk in one fell swoop. Heyman has stuck with Rollins ever since, the pair of them adding Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed to their ranks in the months since.
That likely means when Reigns eventually returns, he will have Rollins in his sights. There's also a very real chance that Rollins is a World Champion by SummerSlam as The Architect is currently in possession of the men's Money in the Bank contract. My guess is he cashes it in on a victorious Goldberg at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12.
If that's how this all pans out, then we might see a Reigns vs. Rollins showdown for the World Heavyweight Championship in one of SummerSlam's main events. The two have faced off against each other so many times over the years, but if they do meet again at SummerSlam, it will be their first singles match since Royal Rumble 2022.
Even though we already see very little of Reigns compared to when The Big Dog was running full-time, his appearances might become even scarcer moving forward. Turns out the rumors that Reigns was being eyed to play Akuma in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie were true, as the WWE Superstar has now officially been cast in the role.
