In today's WWE and AEW news and rumors rundown, is Vince McMahon starting a new wrestling promotion? There are conflicting reports about the legitimacy of the rumors and who might all be involved. Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre is dealing with a knee issue. Is there any chance he misses the Elimination Chamber? Finally, is there a WWE main roster run in the future of the Hardy Boyz? They will be appearing on NXT programming tonight, but reports are that WWE has future plans for both on the main roster.
Here are your top news and rumors for February 25, 2025:
Speculation is growing that Vince McMahon is preparing to launch a new wrestling promotion, with reports suggesting he has secured studio space and recruited former WWE employees. However, a FOX spokesperson has denied any involvement in the rumored venture.
McMahon, 79, resigned from WWE and TKO in January 2024 following a lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct. While some charges have been dropped, legal matters are ongoing. Despite this, and even though rumors also exist he might be working on some sort of different entertainment venture, rumors of McMahon attempting to start a competing wrestling promotion are out there.
Former WCW President Eric Bischoff acknowledged the rumors on 83 Weeks but doubted FOX backing another wrestling company. With FOX distancing itself from the speculation, the idea of this being realistic seems to be fading hourly.
Just before Friday's SmackDown episode and Drew McIntyre's match with Jimmy Uso, the Scottish Psychopath shared a video of doctors extracting fluid from his knee. Considering the maintenance he has to do and how rest might help, some have questioned McIntyre’s status ahead of the upcoming Elimination Chamber PLE.
Speaking during a media call ahead of Elimination Chamber 2025, McIntyre noted that while he asked to have fluid drained because he couldn’t fully bend his knee, he now has no concerns about his knee. He noted:
“I mean, I have no concerns with the knee personally. I couldn’t bend it fully, unfortunately, and I told the doctor, ‘Listen, like let’s get this fluid out.' “He wasn’t exactly over the moon about it, but medically, it was safe, or I wouldn’t have done it in the first place. But it was legitimately 45 minutes before the match. I told him, ‘This is going to hinder me in the match. I’m not one to make excuses, I’m not going to say that’s why Jimmy (Uso) got himself the biggest victory of his damn career and had his WrestleMania moment at my expense, but yeah, to put it simply, I’m not a pu---. A lot of the guys are now."
He added, "I’ll be good by Elimination Chamber. "If I have to tape myself together to get in the ring with the likes of Punk, Seth, and John Cena, people I really want to be in there with. Show the world that Drew McIntyre belongs on top. You don’t have to hand me a thing, I’ll keep taking and taking and taking and showing why I belong on top. That’s a match I’m not going to miss, if I have to hold myself together with duct tape.” (h/t to SEScoops for the transcription.)
According to @WrestleVotes, "WWE has dropped a brand new Hardy Boyz shirt ahead of their NXT return tonight. Internally, there’s buzz that this is just the beginning, with creative sources optimistic the legendary duo will have a main roster program sometime this spring / summer." It wasn't clear if the Hardys would ever be welcomed back in WWE, but the new partnership between TNA and WWE has opened the door for both sides to mend the relationship and potentially give Matt and Jeff one more run.
WWE knows the duo is popular and their returns at a previous WrestleMania remains one of the most memorable returns in history. The pop they got will never be forgotten and the belief is they are popular enough to still make money for the company.
