WWESaturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City is here. The card is stacked with four championship matches. Both men’s world titles will be on the line, and WWE has guaranteed a new World Heavyweight Champion.
Top stars like Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, Tiffany Stratton,Jade Cargill, and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio are featured on the card. With these heavy hitters and high-profile matches, WWE could structure the show in several ways.
This will be the first edition of Saturday Night's Main Event to not air on NBC, but exclusively on Peacock. There will still be ads, but WWE has significantly more freedom in terms of show length and flow.
The first and last matches are most important. Here are my predictions for match order, including which bout will get the main event slot.
WWE likes to start shows with high energy. Jey Uso's entrance accomplishes that every time. CM Punk gets a loud pop whenever he appears.
Fans will be vocal in this match, likely supporting CM Punk down the stretch of the match.
The match conclusion is the most unpredictable outcome of the show. A new champion is advertised, but there's always the possibility of shenanigans, like interference from The Vision. This could also be the time to turn Jey heel against his brother Jimmy.
Any of those scenarios would create a hot end to the first match of the night.
If the first match is high energy and newsworthy, WWE will want to follow that up with a match that gets the Utah fans back on their feet. Triple threat matches generally do that. Adding in Dom Mysterio and Penta guarantees it.
This will be a fun, fast-paced match with no disqualification rules and appearances from the likes of the Americanos, The Judgment Day, AJ Styles , and Dragon Lee. If my outcome predictions are right, it's not about who wins, but how "Dirty Dom" picks up the win.
Putting this match as the semi-main event will elevate its significance. This is Jade's time to win the gold. The match quality itself may not be great. Cargill doesn't have an established history of good matches, but the moment of her capturing the title will overshadow a possibly clunky match.
Putting this match here protects both stars in case the wrestling flops.
WWE generally likes to close the show with Cody Rhodes and the WWE Championship. I don't see them veering from that on Saturday. Cody will retain, but the question is whether WWE signs off with Cody celebrating (ala Wrestlepalooza ) or something way more interesting: like involvement from Randy Orton (where has he been?) or Jacob Fatu.
