WWE SmackDown Results Tonight

Match 1: United States Championship — Steel Cage Match
Trick Williams (c) def. Baron Corbin

• Trick Williams, accompanied by Lil Yachty, entered the steel cage first. Baron Corbin entered second.

• Corbin has the advantage heading into the first commercial break of the night.

• The live crowd in Indianapolis is hot, and understandably so. A Steel Cage Match opening SmackDown is a rare sight.

• This match is going the distance, with Corbin kicking out of the Trick Shot following outside involvement from Yachty.

• Williams retained the United States Championship after hitting Corbin with three Book Ends, though the final one was a little clunky.

• Grade: A
  • As an opening match for SmackDown, this was a great fit. Trick received a huge babyface reaction in Indy, and the match felt like a clash between two heavyweights, with Trick continuing to come into his prime.

Backstage Segment: Cathy Kelly interviewed Nia Jax and Lash Legend about the Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifier tonight.

Backstage Segment: Nick Aldis called CM Punk into his office for a “quick chat.”

Worlds Collide Update: Corey Graves announced on commentary that Worlds Collide will air this Wednesday at 7pm ET on YouTube, several days after the live event takes place.

Backstage Segment: Back from commercial, Aldis addressed Punk and Kevin Owens in his office.

Backstage Segment: Chelsea Green confided in Tiffany Stratton about her Money in the Bank concerns. Paige came over to comfort her, but Nikki Bella interrupted.

(In Progress) Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
Lash Legend def. Charlotte Flair and Giulia

• Lash Legend dominated the early portion of the match, though she missed the kip-up after hitting Giulia with a suplex. Giulia then took out Charlotte with a dropkick as the match headed into commercial.

• Lash pinned Giulia to win the match.

• Grade: C-
  • A clunky match where the styles didn’t really mesh. Too much of it felt choreographed, but Lash going over fits the theme of the women’s match tonight: putting the spotlight on rising stars.

Backstage Segment: Blake Monroe taunted Giulia after her MITB loss. The two brawled backstage before being separated by officials. Nick Aldis then booked them in a singles match for next week.
