Drew McIntyre always tells the truth. He told the truth about CM Punk and John Cena. Last night on SmackDown , he told the truth about Cody Rhodes.
When Cody eventually turns heel, fans will look back on McIntyre's promo on SmackDown as a prophetic utterance. Walking through the crowd during Rhodes' opening segment, the former WWE Champion said:
Really, Arizona? You're going to cheer Cody? And you're going to boo me? With all the evidence you've seen, you're going to cheer Cody Rhodes? At this point, you're all complicit in his crimes. Actually, Cody, I don't think it's that. I think they're brainwashed by corporate Cody's propaganda.
Drew went on to accuse Cody of screwing him at Wrestlepalooza with the referees, then bashing him in the face with the WWE Championship on the October 17 edition of SmackDown.
Cody's smile is less genuine. His actions are more aggressive. A dark version of "The American Nightmare" is brewing.
Some don't believe a heel turn is possible because of the amount of work Cody does as the top babyface ambassador for the company. That's a bad take. Cody already wears the suits. He already speaks in corporate jargon. He already seems a little too "put together."
When the time comes, he can still make media appearances as a heel. It's been done before. Remember when Roman Reigns and The Rock went on Jimmy Fallon before WrestleMania 40?
Cody's heel turn would also open up that top babyface spot for an emerging star to take it. WWE could help itself out by making room for another star.
WWE would not have given Drew McIntyre that promo if there was no discussion about turning Cody. The pieces are clicking together, and it won't be long before Cody stops being the good guy.
