It’s time for another week’s worth of WWE SmackDown results, and on May 24th, 2024 we ask: who wants the crowns?
I liked both semifinal matches, if I am being honest. That said, if I had to choose? I would say that Orton and Tama Tonga was a touch better than Nia Jax and Bianca Belair. One complaint for both is that the outcomes were fairly expected, I think. Once Jey lost, sending Tama Tonga to the finals didn’t quite make as much sense. Unless WWE had wanted an Imperium versus Bloodline story? But with Imperium down to just two, that doesn’t work.
I like Bayley. I like Chelsea. But I did not like Bayley versus Chelsea.
No specific chants, but the crowd was hot.
To the victors go the spoils. Tonight, the big winners are Nia Jax and Randy Orton.
Nice return from Kevin Owens. If I had to guess, I feel as though some combo of Bloodline members get involved in the King of the Ring finals to prevent a Viper win. That sets up some Bloodline versus Orton and Owens match in the near future. Just a guess, and perhaps a bad one.
Not a match, but they had some serious audio issues when Heyman was talking to Solo in the back.
In case you missed it, a few notable things came out of Jeddah already. No, this is not more on the 2 night SummerSlam announcement. And only one thing specifically from SmackDown.
For starters, the winners of the King and Queen of the Ring finals will have earned championship matches at SummerSlam. Based on our finals match ups? We could see Lyra Valkyria get another shot at Becky Lynch. Or, Nia Jax and Bayley. For the men’s side, do we see Orton versus Cody? Gunther against Priest? Honestly, not sure they’d allow Gunther to challenge Cody, but a reprisal of their brief Rumble clash would be welcomed.
And, the chaser? We have the women’s tag titles getting defended. Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair will defend against Candace and Indi.
Nothing significant on this SmackDown. I could have done with a bit less predictability, but it is what it is.
Biggest highlight for me, I think, has to be the crowd. International crowds can do crazy good. Jeddah was no different. Super loud, very into the babyfaces you’d expect. I am probably wrong, but it seemed as though LA Knight’s got the loudest, or one of the loudest, pops.
I expect some surprises for the actual premium live event, but we shall see. I might be wrong, I often am. But the card looks pretty solid, if not overwhelmingly amazing. All in all, a pretty standard SmackDown.
