Paul Heyman has declared that Survivor SeriesWarGames will be the "best show of the year." The WWE Hall of Famer may have given us a spoiler, not a prediction.
Both of the WarGames matches are as stacked as they've ever been. Combined, there are 14 former world champions competing in the structure, along with several of WWE's most promising future stars.
John Cena will compete in his final Premium Live Event, defending gold against ESPN's #1 star under 30, "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio, in his hometown '619' of San Diego.
A distinctive of the Triple H creative era, the show will only feature four matches (announced). With three hours to fill, and enormous expectations to live up to, the arrangement of the matches is critical. There's not much to work with so WWE has to get each move right.
Here are my predictions for the Survivor Series match order.
This is formulaic, but it works. Unless there is a major angle (i.e., surprise win, return, heel/face turn, or all-out classic match) planned, WWE normally puts the women's specialty match in the first slot on the card.
While this isn't the main event, it is a critical part of the show. Performers have often said if they can't be the main event, they'd rather go first because the crowd is the hottest and their performance sets the tone for the show.
These 10 women will get loud reactions from the San Diego crowd and will work hard to deliver a memorable performance.
In all honesty, I would open the show with this match. The only reason I place it in the #2 slot is because the WarGames matches need to be as spaced out as possible. Unless WWE adds a fifth match to the show between now and Saturday at 7pm ET, I think this match will follow the opening WarGames bout.
Fans will instantly come back alive for both Dominik and Cena's entrances. I don't expect this to be a long match, so in terms of in-ring action, Cena and Mysterio will deliver a fitting second match of the night performance.
I feel bad for these ladies already. Unless they open the show (which they won't), the San Diego fans may treat this match as a bathroom break. Technically, this is a world championship match, and if it is match 3, it will be the semi-main event. Vaquer will have to carry Bella to a good performance, which is a lot of pressure on La Primera.
There are simply too many heavy hitters for this to go anywhere else on the card. Sure, the women could close the show, but they would need to have something epic planned to protect them from fan exhaustion/backlash.
The entrances, dynamics, in-ring performances, and post-match activity will tie together the past, the present, and the future in one match. WWE will give this match a solid hour from start to finish, so it will feel like watching multiple matches in one.
Survivor Series will be the third PLE to air on the ESPN app, as part of WWE’s $1.6 billion partnership with the sports media company.
For fans in the United States, there are two ways to watch the show.
