WWE Urged to Make Chris Jericho RAW GM as AEW Contract Expires
Chris Jericho making his AEW entrance

WWE have been advised to use Chris Jericho in a non-wrestling role should he rejoin the company as expected. Jericho's contract with AEW expires today (December 31st) and he looks increasingly likely to return to WWE for a retirement run.

Chris Jericho To Replace Adam Pearce?

Chris Jericho's pro wrestling future has been one of the hottest topics of discussion at the back end of 2025, amid his AEW deal ending at year's end. He is reportedly WWE-bound and could even re-debut on the RAW on Netflix anniversary show next Monday, January 5th.

The 55-year-old's last AEW appearance was in April, and he had blended competing with occasional commentary roles. But he looks set to be back in the ring and potentially see out his career in WWE.

There has been plenty of talk about how WWE should use Jericho, and Jonathan Coachman thinks the RAW general manager role would be a good fit. The former WWE commentator suggested replacing Adam Pearce with a post on X:

"No one is talking about what role he would play. We haven’t see him wrestle in months. He’s one of my favorites all time but if I am using him the best way I get rid of (Pearce) and (put) Jericho in the authority role which he would absolutely crush."

Jericho is renowned for his mic skills and Coachman thinks he'd be perfect in an authority role instead of wrestling:

"The backstage and in-ring promos would be awesome. He doesn’t need to be a top in-ring talent because he would need to wrestle at least 3-4 times a month, and not sure if he wants to or can perform high-level 30-minute matches that much."

It seems unlikely Jericho won't be wrestling if he returns to WWE, but an authority-type role could be something the company considers in the future. There's little chance they will replace Pearce because he has been one of their best GMs and plays the part exceptionally well.

Jericho could continue a sporadic commentary role, as he spoke in the past about eyeing such a position post-retirement. WWE are constantly moving their announcing teams around due to Joe Tessitore's other sporting commitments, but he could be ideal in a three-man booth with Michael Cole and Corey Graves on WWE RAW next year.

Chris Jericho Should Replace NXT GM Ava

If WWE wants to bring more eyes to NXT and take Jonathan Coachman's advice by making Jericho a GM, then it's NXT. Of the three current authority figures, Ava is the least experienced and doesn't give off the feeling of someone in power in comparison to RAW's Adam Pearce and SmackDown's Nick Aldis.

Ava has been NXT GM since January 2024, and while she has grown into the role, there are still glaring issues, especially when she is handling heated rivalries. She can continue in a non-wrestling role, such as becoming a manager or even Jericho's right-hand woman.

Jericho suggested in the interview above that he has considered becoming a consultant once he retires. He'd be able to get a look at the younger generation regularly if he were to become NXT's new GM.

Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce backstage at WWE Raw

Imagine the promos between him and the likes of NXT North American Ethan Page, and it would take the developmental brand to another level. On WWE Draft night, seeing him bickering with Pearce and Aldis over them trying to poach his talent could be a fresh direction and reignite a cross-brand rivalry which has been lacking during the Triple H era.
