WWE's offer for Will Ospreay didn't match up with AEW

Will Ospreay is the latest marquee addition to the AEW roster. During his free agency period, it was expected that Ospreay would discuss terms with both AEW and WWE. After all, they're the two biggest promotions on the planet.

While the terms of Ospreay's deal haven't been released, he has recently admitted that AEW's offer was more substantial than WWE's.

"Yeah, of course, but it was night and day," Ospreay said on the Talk is Jericho podcast. "Even in differences of what they were offering and what AEW was offering, AEW was way better. The scheduling, everything about AEW was completely the right option for me. It was always, you can go be a superstar in WWE and famous, but it's not as good of pay and it's not as kind of a schedule. I respect everyone there doing it, but it's not for me."

There's no denying that joining WWE comes with additional perks. It has a massive global audience and a proven track record of creating superstars that transcend the sport. However, it's unfair to assume AEW can't have similar success. The company is still young and forming its identity. Most importantly, it's still piecing together a roster that draws millions of weekly viewers. Ospreay will be a big part of that puzzle.

Furthermore, Ospreay joined AEW to continue his development. He wants to face the best in the business and prove he's among the most talented wrestlers in the world. Now, he has that platform.

With Ospreay, MJF, Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Swerve Strickland, Samoa Joe, Kenny Omega, Christian, Adam Copeland and the recent addition of Kazuchika Okada, Tony Khan finally has the top-end talent required to lead his ever-growing company.

AEW's offer may have been for more money, but it also included an opportunity to be a foundational part of the company's formative years. So far, it looks like both sides have made the right decision.
