BYU Football hires Kevin Gilbride as the Tight End Coach. This comes after the firing of Steve Clark after a season where BYU struggled on offense. Coach Gilbride returns to BYU Football after his 12 years in the NFL as a coach. He is no stranger to BYU as he played for Lavell Edwards before transferring to Hawaii in 1998.

Kevin Gilbride has coached in the NFL for the Panthers, Bears, and Giants. He coached at the collegiate level at Syracuse, Georgetown, Temple, and Charlotte. Coach Gilbride brings experience as a tight end coach, wide receivers coach, and head coach to BYU. This is a huge win for BYU and he will have both spring and fall camps to work with the Tight ends and hopefully bring in some transfers that will help the Cougars on gameday. He should bring many years of experience and we should hopefully see more of the tight ends used on the offensive side of the ball.

BYU Football Staff’s Comments

Head Coach Kalani Sitake made the announcement late this afternoon. He said that “I am so excited to welcome Kevin, his wife Rachel, and their family to BYU,”. “Kevin brings expertise and incredible experience to the tight end room. He has won as a tight ends coach at the highest level, comes with an extensive knowledge of the position and is highly regarded in the college coaching ranks and in the NFL. Kevin will be an excellent mentor for our young men in that position group and for our entire program.”

Aaron Roderick BYU Offensive Coordinator said this about the hiring of Coach Gilbride. “Kevin’s resume speaks for itself,” BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick said. “He has been a tight ends coach for most of his career. He brings the expertise to elevate the established tradition of great tight end play at BYU and to develop our players for the NFL.”
