Matt LaFLeur sounds off on Packers’ early-season disappointment
Packers' top trade chip isn't going anywhere, NFL insider says 4 Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur congratulates wide receiver Romeo Doubs on his touchdown reception during the first quarter of their game against the Washington Commanders Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

After a bombastic first two games of the season, posting wins against the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders catapulting the Packers into the conversation as the team to beat in the NFC, Green Bay has come careening down to earth over the past two games.

Emerging from the early bye week, the Packers get the opportunity to get right against the woebegone Cincinnati Bengals next Sunday, but need to turn the page from a disastrous fourth quarter collapse against the lowly Cleveland Browns and playing to a 40-40 tie with the Dallas Cowboys, in Week 4.

Matt LaFleur believes Packers aren’t yet at their best

A month into the season, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur didn’t hold back on his disappointment with where his team currently stands.

“I don’t expect us to play our best football in September,” LaFleur told reporters last week, just prior to dismissing the players for a five-day break. “We’ve got to get better. I’m more worried about getting better each and every game.

“You can look at our record right now, we’re 2-1-1. Are we disappointed we’re not better? Absolutely. But even in the two games we won, I don’t think we put together a full game of complementary football. So, we’ve got to somehow, some way be able to do that collectively in all three phases where we’re putting our best out there.”

Against the Bengals, the Packers will have the chance to unleash edge rusher Micah Parsons, who has 2.5 sacks so far this season, against an offensive line that allowed two sacks on Sunday afternoon.

After entering the bye with a difficult taste in their mouth, the Packers have the opportunity to finally play complementary football that LaFleur hopes to see and might be necessary for Green Bay to live up to its early-season championship aspirations.
