It has now been a year and a half since former Maryland Terrapins star Stefon Diggs supposedly forced his way out of the Buffalo Bills. After spending a season with the Houston Texans, the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver signed with the New England Patriots in the offseason on a three-year deal worth $63.5 million.

Diggs returned to Highmark Stadium for the first time on Sunday, 18 months after his blockbuster trade away from Buffalo. He marked his comeback in style, helping lead the Patriots to a 23-20 victory in front of the Bills faithful.

Diggs logged season-high marks of 10 catches and 146 receiving yards, turning in his best performance in a Pats uniform against his former team.

After the win, the 31-year-old caught up with ESPN’s Melissa Stark, who asked Diggs if this game was personal for him. The All-Pro wide receiver got brutally honest with his response.

“A hundred percent,” Diggs said. “Obviously, I love those guys. (I) still got a good relationship with those guys, got a lot of respect for them.

“But I love the game of football more. Every time I go out here, I’m trying to prove it, not only to them, but to myself.”

Diggs came out with a statement performance on Sunday night. As he said, he proved to the Bills and to himself how much love he has for the sport. In the process, Diggs also showed the entire football world that he’s still one of the top pass-catchers in the game today.

Diggs also indicated in his message that he has nothing but love for his former teammates. He spent four memorable years in Buffalo, and despite his rather contentious departure, he is still able to look back on his Bills tenure fondly.

That’s now all in the past, though, and Diggs is determined to do everything in his power to help the Patriots achieve their objectives this season.
