The Malaysian men’s doubles team of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin revealed that inconsistency continues to be the greatest challenge despite reaching the semifinals stage in the ongoing Thailand Open.

Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin reached the Thailand Open semifinals. Their run ended with a narrow loss to world No. 4 Rankireddy and Shetty. The Malaysian duo now focuses on securing a podium finish at the Malaysia Masters.

There were moments when they showed great momentum during the tournament. The players confessed that a lack of concentration and slow reactions led to their failure to reach the finals.

“Yeah, I think we already do our best all day, and yes, we have a lot of luck,” said Izzuddin during the post-match interview.

The Malaysians came close to making a win after taking the opening game and nearly closing out the second.

“Because in the second set, I see that the coach also shared with us that you have a chance of winning. Sadly, it turned out the other way around.”

After exiting the Thailand Open through the semi-finals stage, the Malaysian men’s doubles team expressed their views on the strengths and weaknesses during the tournament.

“We need to be more consistent, especially in the early stages of the game,” Izzuddin admitted. ” Because in the third set, I think we lost too many points.”

Their performance at the Thailand Open was also promising despite the setbacks in the previous games.The Malaysian team fought hard to come back from tough games in the previous rounds.

Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have established themselves as one of the best Malaysian men’s doubles teams during the past two seasons. The Malaysian pair is known for its aggressive playing style and fast front-court moves.

Sze Fei and Izzuddin also shifted focus towards the upcoming Malaysia Masters. They hope to make a deeper run on their home soil.

“Actually, Malaysia is not the best place for us. But this time, our target is to be on the podium.”

Their duo is still highly ambitious and realistic, cause they know what needs to be improved in the top ranks. 

Tough Semifinal Battle Against India’s Top Pair

For the Malaysians, their tournament ended in a tight three-game defeat against Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. They were the fourth-best doubles team in the world today.

Goh and Izzuddin lost 21-19, 20-22, 16-21 in a match that lasted a little over an hour in Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

At the start, Goh and Izzuddin seemed to dominate most of the part for the entire first game with their aggressive play. They were quick with their hits and mindful of covering around the court; the Malaysians closed the first match with a win.

Indeed, the Malaysians were on the edge of winning in straight sets. But Satwiksairaj and Chirag managed to handle the situation better by winning the second game 22-20.

From then on, it was clear where things were headed; this tournament was enough to prove that Goh and Izzuddin could still compete at the highest level of the sport.
