Nguyen Tien Minh made it to the semifinals in 2019 when he was 36.20 years old, and Lee Chong Wei did the same in 2018 when he was 35.52 years old. Lin Dan, the Chinese legend, was on the list in 2017 at the age of 33.54, and Sho Sasaki was on it in 2014 at 31.82 years old.
Chou has set a new standard for consistency and endurance in men’s singles at the continental level by going ahead of everyone else.
This milestone shows that he can adapt and compete with a new generation of fast and aggressive players. It’s more than just a number. His place in the semifinals also keeps him in the running for a major title, which makes his historic run even more impressive.
Chou set the record after a thrilling comeback win over Loh Kean Yew in the quarterfinals, 16–21, 21–12, and 21–17.
Loh was in charge at the start of the match, and he won the first game 21-16 with his speed and aggressive play. Chou seemed a little out of sync at first, having trouble handling the pressure.
In the second game, he changed his strategy by slowing down the rallies and making the exchanges last longer. That change worked, as he won the game 21-12 to tie the match.
Both players pushed hard in the decider, but Chou’s experience made the difference. He kept his cool in the last points to win 21–17 and finish a great comeback.
The win not only guaranteed him a spot in the semifinals, but it also showed how strong he is, which has always been a part of his career.
