Andre Ward Slams Bivol For Being Naive – ‘Too Much Talking’
EFE

Andre Ward criticized Dmitry Bivol for speaking about Artur Beterbiev’s skillset following his loss in their Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship fight.

Bivol lost a majority decision in a controversial result, with many feeling he had done enough to get the win. Eddie Hearn hit out at the scorecards, one of which had it 116-112 in favor of Beterbiev. That meant that Bivol only won four rounds, despite many ex-pros, such as Carl Froch and Paul Malignaggi, giving Bivol the victory. Shawn Porter even went as far as to state that he had Bivol winning eight rounds. That has set the narrative for a rematch, with many feeling that Bivol had been unjustly prevented from becoming undisputed. The Saudis have also confirmed that they want to make that rematch, provided both boxes are willing to take it.

The Rematch

“It’s one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in the last 20 years, but I don’t think the result is fair. I think Bivol win two rounds more. I don’t know why the result is like this, but I will try to do the rematch. They deserve it. If they accept, we will do it,” Turki Alalshikh said

Bivol confirmed that he did not get troubled by Beterbiev’s power, stating that Canelo Alvarez had more power on his individual punches. However, when it came to putting punches together, he recognized that Beterbiev was better. Ward criticized those comments, stating that it could impact a potential rematch, as he was giving Beterbiev signs of what he felt in the fight. It may also give the game plan away. Bivol could become more aggressive in the rematch if he does not feel that Beterbiev’s power is hurting him.

“I could compare [it] with Canelo. He put all his energy, all his power [into] a single punch. [So,] sometimes he’s harder than Beterbiev. Beterbiev, every punch will be [harder than] Canelo. Both of them are strong, but Beterbiev is bigger, and he’s born strong. He has very strong punches. [I felt] his right hand even through my left. My thumb is swollen because I was holding it on my head, and he was beating on my hand. I felt like my hand came inside of my head from the power,” Bivol said

Ward Reacts

While that may be the case, Bivol’s face did have bruising around the area, suggesting that he did feel the power. There is also a chance that if Bivol becomes more aggressive in the rematch, he will get caught. This is something that Anthony Yarde discovered. The Brit was landing on Beterbiev with his counters. However, he opened up, getting hit in return as he was eventually stopped. That is the balance that Bivol must get right in any rematch. But Ward cautioned him from giving it too much away.

“You should never concede this openly when there is potential for a rematch. Keep that to yourself! Too much talking,” Ward said

Maple Leafs Linked to 20-Goal Talent in Potential Roster Shake-Up

With Mitch Marner leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs this offseason, the team has been searching for different ways to replace his production. Marner was a central piece to the offensive side of things for Toronto, and the Maple Leafs front office has been active. Toronto is looking to get over the hump in the Eastern Conference, and building a more well-rounded roster could be the key. The Maple Leafs have multiple options to improve the team, and the possibility of a late offseason move is in play. One name that has gained some traction for the Maple Leafs is forward Jack Roslovic. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, there are multiple teams still looking at Roslovic, including the Maple Leafs. Toronto has been trying to move money around to make it possible to outright sign Roslovic. The Maple Leafs are lacking cap space, but it seems that Roslovic could be a solid addition to bolster the roster. Roslovic is coming off a very successful season with the Carolina Hurricanes, which saw him score 22 goals and 17 assists. The forward remains one of the better free agents still left on the open market, and he could help fill the void left by Marner's leaving. Toronto has been active this offseason, bringing in Nicolas Roy and Matias Maccelli to help things. But Roslovic could be used as a third-line scoring option, helping to make the Maple Leafs more formidable across the roster. This could be a move to help get the Maple Leafs to take that next step toward true title contention. The front office has a lot of pressure on it to succeed, and this could be one way to help win more games on the ice.

Boston Bruins Bleak 2025-26 Outlook Raises Concerns

As the Boston Bruins prepare for the upcoming NHL season, there are a lot of questions around the roster. Boston missed the playoffs last year, taking a massive step back from where the team normally has been. But even entering this coming year, there isn't a lot of optimism around the Bruins. Boston has a few solid pieces on the roster, but the team hasn't improved much. This has led some to believe that Boston will again miss the playoffs next season. One of those people is NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report, who predicted them to be on the outside looking in. "They lack a top-line center, don't have scoring depth after David Pastrnak, the defense wasn't always great even before the injuries to Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm and they desperately need Jeremy Swayman to bounce back and play like the $8 million per year goalie they are paying him to be," wrote Gretz. Boston is going to have a tough time competing in the Eastern Conference this season, and it could see them miss the postseason again. The Bruins haven't done all that much this summer to improve the team, and it could end up costing them. The direction of the Bruins remains one of the bigger mysteries around the NHL, and the front office has been kind of stagnant. If this team wants to contend this season, the best bet is to bank on the team staying healthier than they did last year. But betting on health throughout a season is typically a risky play. Boston's front office still has work to do, and the clock is ticking on them to add to this team.

Michael Hage’s Dominance Clear at World Juniors Showcase

The World Junior Showcase showed the dominance of multiple Montreal Canadiens prospects this past week. After discussing Koivu’s play in the mini tournament earlier today, it is now time for a discussion on the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Michael Hage. Much like his Finnish counterpart, the Canadian forward Hage stood out from his teammates throughout the showcase. Hage, who is arguably a top 3 prospect within the Montreal Canadiens pipeline, put on a show that should help him secure a role within Canada’s 2026 World Juniors team. The fact that he proved to be one of the best players for Canada this past week shows that not even getting an invite to the team’s final selection camp, despite a very strong freshman season at the University of Michigan, seemed silly, as even last year, he likely should have had a shot at making the team. Now that he managed to score a goal in all 4 games that he played for Canada at the World Juniors Showcase, there is almost no way that Canada can leave him off the roster. One of the most memorable moments throughout the whole tournament for Hage was definitely when he was in a scrum, mixing it up with his former Canadiens Development camp roommate, Aatos Koivu, as previously mentioned in my article from earlier today. Another amazing moment in that game was Hage’s goal, where he completely deked around the Finland goalie to put the puck in the net. It will be interesting to see where in the Canada lineup Hage will land, as a lot of notable names such as Michael Misa, Beckett Sennecke, and Tij Iginla did not play at the showcase. The good news is that the first two names may end up playing in the NHL, allowing a spot higher in the lineup for Hage. Another thing that will work well in Hage’s favour is that he is very versatile and can play on the wing or at centre for Canada. His coach even praised his “hard skills” for Canada during those four games he played. After watching Hage’s play over the last year, one thing is clear: he could be a play driver on whatever line he plays on for Canada. His game also seems like it will translate well at the pro level. Many may say that Hage must play a top 6 role for Canada, but the fact that he can play an aggressive style and has a strong defensive game could mean that he is also able to play in a bottom-six role if need be. The truth is it would be unlikely he would have to be on the bottom 6, but if the guys mentioned above aren’t in the NHL and are instead on the team, there is a chance that it could happen. This upcoming season with the Michigan Wolverines should be a big one where Hage could find his way in the Hobey Baker conversation if he improves on his 13 goals and 34 points in 33 games. The first half of the season will be telling for his place with Hockey Canada, whereas the 2nd half could also help him earn some time at the pro level. The way Hage has played since being drafted, it feels more like it’s more about when he’ll play for the Canadiens in a regular-season game, rather than if he will. Will Hage prove that he’s ready to play at the pro level this year at Michigan?

Dolphins’ intriguing rookie sees his 2025 rookie season ended before it ever actually began

Amid the exit of tight end Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins' tight end room, the group has been something of a wide open competition for opportunities thus far this summer. Last year's in-line option, Julian Hill, has been battling with veteran free agent Pharaoh Brown and fellow former undrafted free agent standout Tanner Conner for the bulk of the opportunities. As that battle has unfolded, former standout Darren Waller has been working his way back into football shape in the background amid a return from retirement. He's currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Miami's tight end room saw someone's season end on Monday — although it was none of the primary contenders for snaps. Undrafted rookie Jalin Conyers was placed on injured reserve. Dolphins sign free agent TE Chris Myarick, place TE Jalin Conyers on injured reserve Conyers was considered by some to be a dark horse candidate to make Miami's 53-man roster in 2025. Tight end has been a position in which the team has welcomed developmental projects in years past, including Julian Hill in 2023 and Tanner Conner in 2022. The road for Conyers this summer has come to an end, although the Dolphins do retain him on injured reserve for the season and have the chance to stash and carry him into next offseason with this move. The details of Conyers' injury are uncertain, but being placed on the injured reserve list prior to the 53-man cutdown window means that there is no opportunity for a return this season barring an injury settlement. For the Dolphins, they may have more of an interest in stashing Conyers on the injured reserve this season, letting him get healthy, and then allowing him to make another run at the roster next season after spending a year in the building and rehabbing whatever currently ails him. Despite the buzz around his name during the NFL Draft process and fallout, it was a quiet start to camp for Conyers. He struggled to find his footing in the early chapters of training camp. In his place, the Dolphins signed veteran tight end Chris Myarick, who has not logged snaps in the NFL since the 2022 season and should be considered a long shot to make the 53-man roster. The injury does open the door for names such as Myarick to impress, although another contender to watch is 2024 undrafted rookie Hayden Rucci. Rucci is a physical in-line blocker who flashed last year in the preseason. Can he take another step? Or will Miami's tight end room be destined to be comprised of established NFL players such as Brown, Hill, Waller, and Conner — all of whom currently boast questionable ceilings and/or floors?
