Historically speaking, this week could have been renamed “Mike Tyson Week.” Not only is today the boxer's 51st birthday, but he also has a number of significant events that took place in late June. His lightning-quick knockout of Michael Spinks propelled him into “Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World” status, while the infamous Bite Fight with Evander Holyfield was the beginning of the end of Mike Tyson as we knew him. Sure, the former heavyweight champ isn't closely associated with the sweet science as he once was, but Tyson still has his finger on the pulse of the sport he once dominated and can still weigh in on the current map of boxing with a scorching hot take on the upcoming Mayweather-McGregor fight

Chronicled in his new book, "Iron Ambition: My Life with Cus D’Amato", the ascension of the “Baddest Man on the Planet” began with the trainer who manipulated a young and impressionable Tyson into embracing his inner “arrogant sociopath.” His explosion into pop culture started with a beloved video game long ago and continues today as a celebrity panelist on the Fox show "Superhuman". And it is not like Tyson just reappeared on the map - he has been a pop culture constant for three decades now. His Phil Collins-loving star-turn in "The Hangover", his appearances on "Entourage," his controversial one-man, Broadway show "Undisputed Truth" directed by Spike Lee, and his own cartoon series, "Mike Tyson Mysteries," on Adult Swim have kept him relevant well after his in-ring career was over. Though the oft-times-scary athlete may never completely repair his public image, it is thoroughly encouraging to know that he is just another big (and bad) softie who loves "The Notebook".
