Anthony Joshua reportedly in car accident that leaves two dead

British boxer Anthony Joshua has reportedly been injured in a car crash in Nigeria that has left two other people dead, according to BBC reports.

The incident happened just over a week after Joshua’s split-decision win over Jake Paul, which he claimed was his last professional fight.

The Brit was travelling in a Lexus Jeep when it hit a stationary truck earlier today on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Makun. The 34-year-old is believed to have suffered minor injuries from the collision.

Footage of the accident has surfaced online, showing Joshua looking clearly shaken as he sits in the back of the vehicle surrounded by shattered glass before slowly getting out. In the video, fans can be heard calling out his name as he tries to collect himself outside the car.

Joshua has family ties to Sagamu, a town in southwest Nigeria’s Ogun State, and was there visiting relatives over the holidays.

The accident happened just 10 days after his high-profile bout with Jake Paul, where he broke the YouTuber’s jaw in the sixth round.

Local authorities told the BBC that Joshua escaped with minor injuries and is expected to be taken to hospital for checks, though two other people were killed at the scene.

Speaking to Daily Mail Sport about the incident, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said:

“I am away on a family holiday and awoke to the news of this incident. Thankfully he appears to be okay from what I have seen in the images.”

The original plan was for him to get back into training by March for another bout before a potential clash against Tyson Fury. But those plans may need to be adjusted depending on how long it takes him to recover from this accident.
