Anthony Joshua may be set for an unlikely opponent in his next fight as a matchup with Jake Paul is seemingly possible.
2026 may see Joshua vs Paul happen, in a pairing that would have been inconceivable not so long ago. However, ‘The Problem Child’s’ upward trajectory continues to make him a target for top fighters.
Given the differences in past experience between the pair, the fight has been met with some mixed feelings. This even includes Tyson Fury picking Paul to beat Joshua.
There is, however, one heavyweight who does not advocate for the fight, as he wants Joshua for himself.
Tony Yoka is a fighter who has been linked with Joshua in recent weeks, as ‘AJ’ is still searching for a confirmed opponent.
Yoka won gold at the 2016 Olympic Games and currently boasts a professional record of 14-3. In his last outing, ‘La Conquete’ handed Arslan Yallyev (16-0) his first professional loss.
When asked if he was currently in talks to face Joshua by BoxNation, Yoka denied that negotiations had begun. However, Yoka said a match with Joshua would be a ‘great fight’ as he welcomes a challenge from the Englishman.
“There’s history behind it, you know? We’re two Olympic gold medalists. It’s something that makes sense,” Yoka said.
The Frenchman said that Joshua doesn’t need to consider Tyson Fury or anyone else as potential opponents. “I’m here. You don’t have to look too far from there.”
When the topic of Joshua versus Paul came up in the interview, Yoka’s immediate response was, “That’s bull—-. I can’t believe it. You can’t make me believe that Anthony Joshua is going to fight Jake Paul.”
The Frenchman said that “Joshua doesn’t need money,” and that there is no true reason why he should accept a fight with the internet star.
“He is the fighter who makes the most money in boxing.”
Yoka said that he understood why Mike Tyson returned to face Paul, due to his age and desire to return. However, as for Joshua, Yoka said, “Joshua is still good for a heavyweight… You can’t tell me he’s going to fight Jake Paul. What’s the point?”
