The already stacked Ring IV card set for November 22 in Riyadh has received a boost with Artur Beterbiev vs Deon Nicholson added to the card. The announcement from The Ring bills this as the road to redemption for Beterbiev.
Former undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev will return from a nine-month layoff to face American Deon Nicholson (22-1, 18 KOs), as Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOs) looks to stay active before hopefully facing Dmitry Bivol for the third time.
The 40-year-old recently expressed his frustrations at not being able to agree on a trilogy fight with Bivol. Following their second fight, which Bivol won, he decided to relinquish his WBC title, with David Benavidez elevated from the interim champion position. Bivol has also been ordered by the IBF to face mandatory challenger Michael Eifert. It remains to be seen what Bivol will do next.
The Ring recently reported that Turki Alalshikh had given his blessing for Bivol vs Beterbiev 3 to take place in Russia, so this appears to be a keep busy fight for Beterbiev.
It remains to be seen how much Beterbiev has left, but despite the jab and KO power from Nicholson, the Russian-born fighter should have too much experience and power.
Nicholson recently appeared on the Deontay Wilder-Tyrell Herndon undercard, stopping Devonte Williams. This will be a massive step up for the American, and despite his recent win, he will be in deep waters against Beterbiev.
