LONDON, England — Olympic silver medallist Ben Whittaker is on the verge of the biggest step in his professional career yet: his own headline show. According to promoter Ben Shalom, plans are in motion for Whittaker (9-0-1, 7 KOs) to top a BOXXER card in Birmingham this November, a move designed to capitalize on his rising momentum.

Whittaker’s Rebuild

The 28-year-old light heavyweight has enjoyed a strong 2025 after erasing doubts with a second-round stoppage win in his April rematch against Liam Cameron. That victory helped banish memories of the controversy that surrounded their first bout and re-established Whittaker as one of Britain’s most promising talents.

Since then, he’s taken time to recharge, traveling to Japan, appearing at Paris Fashion Week, and training under Andy Lee at the Ballybrack Boxing Club in Dublin. After a difficult stretch of criticism and pressure, Whittaker’s stock is once again on the rise.

A Crowded Division

Britain’s 175-pound scene is buzzing:

  • Lewis Edmondson vs. Ezra Taylor will meet for British honors on the Parker–Wardley undercard Oct. 25.

  • Dan Azeez fights next week in Nigeria on the Glanton–Browne bill.

  • Willy Hutchinson (The Ring’s No. 10 contender) returns from injury against Mark Jeffers.

  • Zak Chelli captured the English title in June.

With so many rivals active, Whittaker’s timing to re-enter the spotlight couldn’t be better.

Shalom: “We’re in Talks”

Promoter Shalom confirmed to The Ring that Birmingham is the target for Whittaker’s headline opportunity.

“We are hoping, the plan is that we’ll do a headline show with him in November in Birmingham,” Shalom said. “We’re currently in talks to make it happen, I will talk to his team again this week.”

Shalom added that Whittaker’s headline fight will not overlap with the proposed Frazer Clarke vs. Jeamie Tshikeva bout for the vacant English heavyweight title.

What’s Next

Matchmaking remains key for Whittaker. Shalom has emphasized the need to build him carefully after past setbacks while also maximizing his drawing power. Whoever Whittaker faces in November, it will mark the start of a new phase. His evolution from highly touted prospect to headline attraction.
