Bernard Hopkins pays huge respect to Roy Jones Jr saying at his peak, nobody in the history of boxing could beat Jones Jr, saying Jones Jr is the best boxer of all time.
Hopkins told Ring Magazine: “He was smart enough to neutralize my best weapons and smart enough to not get hit by my big shots. Even though I got my shots in he wouldn’t get hit by more than one. Like if I got one in and that’s the thing about fighting unique guys, if a guy lands that one shot, normally there’s another coming behind that.

“He was an all around thing best boxer, best defense, offence…. Early career Roy Jones Jr. speed, reflexes, unorthodox, that type of thing. No one, no one would have beat Roy Jones at that level, where he was at right there and then.”
I absolutely agree with Bernard as Roy Jones Jr during his prime was the perfect fighter. Roy was strong, athletic, fast and had cat-like reflexes. Roy Jones Jr. dominated middleweight and super middleweight. He made Light heavyweight fighters look like they were not on his level at all. He was that good. Most agree that Roy should have walked away after he beat John Ruiz to win the WBA heavyweight championship. Losing all of that muscle clearly affected Roy when he came back down to light heavyweight. He was clearly a shell of himself. Immediately he had issues dealing with the new crop of hunger fighters gunning for him and he wasn’t able to maintain his level of greatness anymore. But that will not take away from his level of greatness and his accomplishments of being boxing’s fighter of the decade for the 1990’s.
