Back in January, two days after Eddie Hearn, a British sports promoter revealed Wembley had been reserved for Fury to fight Anthony Joshua in the summer, Fury announced his retirement from boxing with immediate effect.
Tyson Fury, a British professional boxer is a known two-time world heavyweight champion, with charismatic personality, a career marked by resilience and significant impact on boxing. He first won unified titles were in 2015 for defeating Wladimir Klitschko. Fury reclaimed the WBC title in 2020 by defeating Deontay Wilder after overcoming personal challenges.
Fury has announced his retirement severally, at the start of the year after losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, Fury announced he was hanging up his gloves up for good. Earlier in a trilogy bout in April 2022 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, after beating Dillian Whyte, Fury had also announced his retirement, but returned six months later to fight Derek Chisora. The 36-year-old also announced he was retired in 2017, 2016 and 2013.
Fury would be better served taking on other endeavors that wouldn’t require him to take any physical punishment to never want for money again, having earned enough over his last few fights. If Fury were to remain retired, British boxing fans would be denied a showdown against fellow countryman Anthony Joshua, but that’s not a fight that really moves the needle for Arum, the promoter at this point.
For another fight by Tyson, Arum admits that he wouldn’t stand in the way and would be willing to have top rank work on it, but that will ultimately be up to Fury to decide for himself as he’s not going to push that agenda, if Fury returns to boxing. “Over 130,000 people in the queue for pre-sale tickets for spurs members alone. This is the biggest fight this country has ever seen”, Eddie Hearn said on X.
Arum admitted to would be happy to be involved should Fury do make a comeback, but on the contrary, he does not consider the fight to be big enough to tempt Fury out of retirement. The long-mooted British blockbuster bout between himself and Joshua will remain one that never took place, should Fury stay retired.
