Boxing took the spotlight Saturday night around the globe as Gervonta Davis remained unbeaten.

Davis defended his WBA lightweight title with a thrilling finish of Frank Martin. The event aired live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view.

After struggling early on to find his rhythm, Davis started peppering Martin in the eighth. The finish came shortly there after, as “Tank” moved to 30-0 with 27 career knockouts.

The loss was the first in the career of Martin, who had won his first 18 pro fights.

David Benavidez downed Oleksandr Gvozdyk via unanimous decision in the co-main event. The former two-time super middleweight champion moved up to 175 pounds to secure the win.

Alberto Puello won the vacant WBC interim junior welterweight title while Carlos Adams defended his WBC middleweight belt with a decision. Puello topped Gary Antuanne Russell via split decision.

Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen Meet For Third, Final Time

Billed as his retirement bout, Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen squared off from Brazil.

The five-round exhibition ended with no winner declared though Silva did appear to get the better of Sonnen. The former UFC middleweight champion also won both of their meetings inside the Octagon.

Silva and Sonnen took place from Sao Paulo, Brazil and aired live on Globo.

Hebert Conceicao downed Esquiva Falcao and Kalyl Silva, Anderson’s son, topped Paulo Roberto.

Silva made the move to boxing after his hall of fame MMA career. The 49-year-old lost five of his final six bouts including a 2020 defeat to Uriah Hall.

Sonnen, meanwhile, was making his boxing debut. He last competed in 2019, losing to Lyoto Machida while fighting for Bellator MMA. Sonnen’s last win was in 2018 over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
