Boxing World Slams Munguia After Failed Test – ‘A Total Disgrace’

The boxing world reacted in an outage after Jaime Munguia’s VADA urine sample showed the presence of testosterone metabolites.

The news is a setback for Munguia’s career after the failed test came after his revenge win against Bruno Surace. The latter knocked out Munguia in the first fight, which hampered his career after he had left Golden Boy Promotions to sign with Top Rank. Munguia won the rematch via a unanimous decision, but the result could become a no-contest.

There is also a chance Munguia receives a suspension from the British Boxing Board of Control. The news also raises questions about Eddy Reynoso. He has had three major fighters connected to him who have failed tests: Munguia, Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia. Munguia has been given 10 days to ask for his B-sample, but he has maintained his innocence. However, the boxing community has slammed the findings.

Reaction

“Several experts have explained that there are multiple ways contamination can occur, and I am fully willing to undergo any retroactive, current, or future testing to demonstrate that I have always been a clean athlete. I was tested twice during this training camp, and both results came back negative, which is why receiving this notification of an adverse finding has been a complete surprise to me,” Munguia said

“There’s no place in boxing for cheating; the sport is dangerous enough already. I went to Mexico and knocked out Munguia fair and square in December and I was gracious enough to give him a rematch in May. He knew he could not beat me on a level playing field. I trust that this result will be overturned immediately,” Surace stated
