Bruce Carrington Reveals Why Terence Crawford’s ‘Dog Mentality’ Might Save Him from Canelo

If there is a ‘Once in a Lifetime’ fight that boxing aficionados are waiting for, it will be the Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) vs Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) undisputed super middleweight showdown on September 13. With two pugilistic powerhouses facing each other, the question remains who will ascend to the pedestals of the division?

Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington (15-0, 9 KOs) has a reason (or maybe two) to believe that Crawford might just surprise everyone on fight night.

‘Shu Shu’ was recently a guest on the Ariel Helwani Show. In conversation, Helwani rather bluntly asked him if he thought that Crawford would beat Alvarez.

“Yeah, in my opinion, I think that Terence beats Canelo,” he said without a second thought.

While many had pondered whether Alvarez would have the size advantage based on being noticeably bigger than Crawford, Carrington believes that it is not a major concern. In his words, Alvarez appears bigger on fight night because of his stature, which he attributes to his broad back. Carrington’s words sure seem plausible because Alvarez certainly has a barn door supporting him.

Meanwhile, he quoted Crawford saying that he found Israil Madrimov’s power challenging during their fight. Carrington believes that this might prove problematic for Crawford, as Alvarez is a far stronger fighter than Madrimov. Moreover, he even pointed out that there were certain shots that Madrimov was able to land, such as his straight right hand for example. Carrington mentioned that Alvarez was proficient in that shot and even dropped Austin Trout with it.

However, he still believes that Crawford will emerge victorious in the fight.

“But I do feel that Crawford is the better, well-rounded fighter. He has the better footwork; he has the speed. He’s a switch hitter, he’s more versatile, he has what it takes to win. And so I do think the mentality as well to, he has that dog mentality. If Canelo hits him, he gonna want to get his back, but still be smart about it,” he said. “I think that’s one of the things that makes me feel that Crawford is going to take the victory.”

“Canelo’s Feet Been Slow”

This isn’t the first time that Carrington has spoken in support of Crawford against Alvarez. Back in May, he had hinted that Crawford would most definitely defeat Alvarez “convincingly”.

“We seen in the last fight [against William Scull] that Canelo doesn’t do very well against movers, and I don’t think Crawford is going to move as much as Scull did. That was so excessive what Scull was doing. But he’s going to be mixing in that movement with his offense, and make it a pretty good fight,” he said while talking to Pro Boxing Fans.

“I don’t think he’s going to stop Canelo in any way, but I feel like Bud can win convincingly. I feel like Canelo’s feet been slow. You saw when he fought [Erislandy] Lara. You seen even when he was younger when he fought Mayweather.”
