Bruce Carrington vs. Mateus Heita: Preview & Betting Tips
Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images

Bruce Carrington takes on Mateus Heita in a battle of unbeatens for the WBC interim featherweight title on Saturday night, in what could prove to be a more interesting matchup than it looks on paper.

Carrington (15-0, 9 KO’s), also known as “Shu Shu,” has steadily built his professional resume since turning pro, using his technical skill set and amateur pedigree to dominate opponents. And now he looks set to move onto world honours.

On the other side of the ring stands Heita (14-0, 9 KO’s), an undefeated fighter with real pop in his punches. Hailing from Namibia, Heita has impressed with his aggressive style and nine knockout victories. Interestingly Heita is ranked outside the top ten in the WBC, and yet he is in line for a world title shot if he is successful this weekend.

Bruce Carrington vs Mateus Heita: Analysis

With a slick, elusive style and great timing, Carrington picks his shots wisely and rarely takes unnecessary risks. His ability to control distance, work behind a sharp jab, and adjust mid-fight makes him one of the most complete prospects in the featherweight division. Plus, I believe this is what’s going to stand out in this fight, particularly in the mid-late rounds.

Heita presses forward constantly and can change a fight with one shot. However, he hasn’t faced anyone on Carrington’s level in terms of skill or wealth of experience. But, if he hits the American clean on the chin, we shall see how he reacts to that.

“Shu Shu” must be on high alert all fight and use his clear hand and foot speed to burst in and out of range. Carrington’s pivots could cause Heita a problem as he does come forward a lot, but doesn’t have the best foot work. So, there could be occasions where Heita looks to trap the American in the corner but then Carrington quickly counters that with a pivot, thus trapping Heita in the corner.

Carrington vs Heita: Prediction & Betting Tips

Even though Heita’s record is perfect, it comes against far lesser competition. Carrington, with his polished boxing and elite amateur background, is poised to pick Heita apart over the course of the fight. Again, it will be interesting to see how Carrington takes the power if he does get hit clean on the chin.

However, that’s a big if… and I thoroughly expect Carrington’s world championship potential and elite pedigree to show through.

Again, I’m looking for value here as I always do, and there is zero value in picking Carrington KO/TKO. Instead, I’ll be taking Bruce Carrington to win in rounds 5-8 at odds of 3.25.
