Ryan Garcia faced a security breach at his Los Angeles home shortly after becoming the WBC Welterweight Champion.

On February 26, police were summoned to the newly-crowned WBC welterweight champion’s residence following a reported attempted break-in. The incident cast a shadow over a celebratory week for “KingRy,” who captured his first world title on February 21 with a win against Mario Barrios.

The attempted burglary unfolded around 9:35 p.m. An unknown individual reportedly scaled the property’s boundary fence in an effort to infiltrate the house. An on-site security guard reportedly spotted the trespasser and immediately contacted the police. LAPD units arrived on the scene to find the suspect had already vanished.

Despite an extensive search of the immediate neighborhood, no arrests have been made. Investigators have officially logged reports for both trespassing and attempted burglary. It remains unconfirmed whether Garcia was actually inside the premises when the intruder appeared.

Garcia’s Next Fight

Outside of the ring, IBF Junior Middleweight champion Josh Kelly has offered Ryan a shot at a second world title. Kelly is riding high after his own recent success, having seized the IBF Junior Middleweight belt via a majority decision over Bakhram Murtazaliev last month. While the prospect of headlining a major UK stadium is enticing, Garcia’s immediate plans seem focused elsewhere.

Following his win over Barrios, Garcia immediately turned his attention to Shakur Stevenson. Both fighters have expressed a mutual desire to box at 140 lbs. Jumping to the 154-pound division would be a significant leap for Garcia. Having never competed above the welterweight limit of 147 lbs, a move to junior middleweight might be a bridge too far this early in his title reign.

“If there is a big name out there, I’m all ears. “I tweeted this morning, Ryan Garcia if he wanted to become a two-weight world champion and step up to 154lbs. It could be the Battle of the Pretty Boys,” Kelly said

And yet, Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya seems keen on the Devin Haney rematch.

“I would like to see that fight, actually, with Devin Haney. I think that will be more exciting than them fighting in New York last year. “It’ll be a big match-up, bigger than the first time around, it will be huge here in Las Vegas, so I would love to see that,” De La Hoya stated
