Canelo Alvarez’s title defence against Terence Crawford on Saturday night has already secured its place in boxing history.
One of the most anticipated fights in recent years took place last weekend, with Canelo and Crawford meeting at Allegiant Stadium.
Contrary to what many fans thought, ‘Bud’ emerged victorious over the Mexican champion, securing the undisputed super middleweight title after a hard-fought 12-round bout.
It was a massive event not just because of what was at stake, but also because it marked TKO Boxing’s debut card and Dana White’s first major fight since moving into boxing promotion.
Ahead of the blockbuster bout, the UFC president shared his vision for TKO boxing in 2026, hinting at a UFC-style format aimed at giving smaller fights more visibility.
He also predicted that Canelo vs Crawford would be among the top three boxing gates ever, and after the event, that was confirmed. The reported gate exceeded $47.23 million, according to Boxing Kingdom, placing it firmly in the top three of all time.
That figure trails only two other fights: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor’s $55 million gate and Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao, which still holds the record at $72 million.
The total gate for Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez was $47.23M. This is the third largest gate in boxing history and only slightly behind Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor!

The size difference between Crawford and Canelo played a huge part in positioning ‘Bud’ as the underdog, making many fans doubt him.
But in the end, it was Crawford who walked away with a win. The result ended Canelo’s seven-year run as a world champion and left him without a title for the first time since 2018.
