Netflix and Canelo Alvarez are partnering for a new feature-length documentary, as confirmed by the streaming giant.

Produced by Unanimous Media—the production company co-founded by Stephen Curry—the film will provide a deep dive into the trilogy between Canelo and Gennady Golovkin. The documentary will trace their trilogy from the controversial 2017 draw to Canelo’s decisive victories in 2018 and 2022. While a release date is currently pending, the project is strategically timed to build momentum for Canelo’s return on September 12.

The Mexican will headline a major event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during Mexican Independence Day weekend. The card marks the first official event under Canelo’s own promotional banner. Canelo has been out of action since his September 2025 loss to Terence Crawford.

The Future

That defeat ended his second reign as undisputed super middleweight champion, and Crawford’s subsequent retirement in December 2025 left the super middleweight titles scattered and vacant. The extended break was due to elbow surgery Canelo underwent in October 2025. Turki Alalshikh has confirmed that Canelo’s main event will be for a world title, though the specific opponent remains a “surprise.”

“The 12th of September, a big, big, big fight. And this will be the first card for Canelo Promotions. It will be named ‘Mexico Against the World.’ All the fighters from the team of Canelo against the world. And [Alvarez] in the main event [for] a world title, and it will be a surprise in Saudi Arabia, in sha Allah,” Turki Alalshikh (chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority) said
