Canelo Punches A Fan – ‘He Got Knocked Into Next Week’
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Canelo Alvarez showed off his power by agreeing to a fan’s request to give him a body shot.

The Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jaime Munguia during Cinco De Mayo. Alvarez’s next opponent remains unclear. He is open to fighting David Benavidez for a huge sum of $200 million. So far, this is unlikely to be put up by anyone. Reports also indicate that the Saudis want Canelo to box Terence Crawford. Canelo’s next date is likely to be for September on Mexican Independence, with Edgar Berlanga seen as the leading name.

“I’m 100 percent confident. I know it’s gonna happen. He’s just gotta get through this weekend and we definitely gonna make it happen. “I’m the mandatory for Canelo in September, so I’m over here supporting Mexican weekend, supporting the two fighters – the main-event fighters – and showing face, man. I’m the mandatory, I’m the Puerto Rican superstar, so I gotta show face. I gotta come out here and show my support and try to make this fight happen for September,” Berlanga stated

But in the meantime, Canelo was seen interacting with his fans. The following footage shows him landing a crisp right hand to the body. The fan was pushed back by the power, as Canelo walked away in the opposite direction. The fan was understandably left in pain, given the power behind the shot.

Canelo Punches Fan

Canelo may have won that exchange, but outside the ring, he is being criticized by boxing fans. The pressure to fight Benavidez is growing. The Mexican Monster will box Oleksandr Gvozyk for the WBC Interim Light Heavyweight Title on June 15. A victory allows Benavidez to become the mandatory for the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol.

Those two will box for the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Title once Beterbiev returns from injury. Benavidez has made it clear he is willing to come down to 168 pounds only if he can secure the Canelo fight. That leaves a short window of time to get the fight made. The longer Benavidez stays at 175, the more he becomes accustomed to the weight class, making it harder for him to come down. Benavidez is desperate to make the fight but has been left frustrated by Canelo’s demands.

Benavidez On Canelo

“I’m just trying to make the best fight possible. If the fans are happy that they’re paying $80 and he’s not giving the best fights possible. It’s crazy because a Mexican fighter is a fighter of honour who doesn’t care about money.

“But it seems like Canelo now the more money he’s getting he’s like…[go away to] the people, I’m going to fight the easiest fights possible and if you have a problem with that then… [go away] too’. After this fight we’re going to talk to the WBC and see what happens with that, but we’re going to make a strong case to make the fight happen in September. I’m entitled to it,” Benavidez stated
