Charly Suarez ready to shock Emanuel Navarrete: 'This is my time'

Emanuel Navarrete defends his WBO Junior Lightweight Title against Charly Suarez this weekend, with plenty on the line.

Navarrete enters the fight with a stoppage win over Oscar Valdez, which was the perfect response following his recent form. He had moved up to face Denys Berinchyk at 135 in the fight before, as he hoped to add the WBO belt to his resume. However, he came up short in a split decision loss. Navarrete had also suffered a draw against Robson Conceicao before the Berinchyk fight at 130. If Navarrete secures a victory, he will take himself closer to securing a unification at 130 against the likes of O’Shaquie Foster or the winner of Angelo Leo vs Tomoki Kameda.

Saurez will be looking to spoil those plans. He is undefeated with an 18-0 record, having beaten Jorge Castaneda in his last fight. However, he has only stopped three opponents in his last eight fights, meaning he is not the biggest puncher. Navarrete is a KO artist with a 39-2-1 record, which includes 32 KO wins. Saurez was ready to shock the world.

“This fight is a big answered prayer for me because we trained for this fight and this is my shot. I’ve been looking for this fight since two years ago. The chance that they gave me, maybe tomorrow there is no chance for me. That’s why once the opportunity came to me, I grabbed it and worked hard. Because maybe tomorrow I won’t have an opportunity like this. So this is my time. In this fight I use all of my experience in the amateurs. Me and my team, we studied for his movement, the movement of Navarrete. No more excuses in the ring,” Saurez said
