Chisora Targets A Massive Final Fight
TASS

Derek Chisora wants a massive fight for his last bout as speculation increases over who he could face.

Chisora has rolled back the years of late, securing career-best wins against Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin. He dropped both men to the canvas on his way to unanimous decision wins. The Wallin fight was his 49th bout, as he became the IBF Interim Heavyweight Champion. That puts him in a mandatory position for the full champion Daniel Dubois.

Chisora’s Options

Chisora has stated that he will retire after his 50th bout. The problem with the Dubois fight is that Daniel is targeting a fight against Oleksandr Usyk. That would be for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship. That match-up is complicated by the WBO ordering Usyk to defend his titles against his WBO mandatory Joseph Parker. That could leave Chisora with a shot against Dubois.

If that fight does not happen, Chisora has made his targets very clear. After beating Wallin, Chisora also called out Anthony Joshua and Usyk. Joshua is close friends with Chisora. The fight would no doubt sell out since it is a big domestic clash. Joshua’s form is also not the best since Dubois dropped him several times on his way to the stoppage win. Chisora is known for coming forward and pressing the action, as he may fancy his chances of getting a win.

A fight against Usyk would be a rematch of their first bout. Chisora was praised for managing to last the distance even if he lost a unanimous decision. Chisora took the fight to Usyk, only to get outboxed. However, Chisora’s performance has often been credited as a blueprint to trouble Usyk. Chisora and Usyk have developed a good friendship since that fight. However, the prospect of a rematch is unlikely as it does nothing for the Ukrainian’s legacy.

Warren Reacts

Alternatively, a crossover fight with Francis Ngannou could take place. Ngannou has said he wants to have another boxing bout. This would offer Chisora a massive payday in a fight he is expected to win. Ngannou will also fancy his chances, knowing Chisora could have one eye on retirement. Regardless, Frank Warren wants to make the biggest fight out there for him.

“Chisora is [an IBF mandatory]. [And] he won it in his last fight and everyone knew what the fight was going to be for. He is the mandatory to our man, ‘Dangerous Dan [Dubois]’, so that’s the position he’s in. He wants a big fight to go out on. Eddie [Hearn] and I have had a couple of chats today and in due course will let people know our views on what we’ll do. We both have been involved in his career, he started off with me, been with me a long time, was with me for the last few fights. We want to deliver that 50th fight. I want to work something between us that we both [Warren and Hearn] walk him out,” Warren said
