Just days after his split-decision loss to Deontay Wilder, Derek Chisora sparked backlash by calling for an immediate rematch.

The bout at The O2 Arena was heavily promoted as Chisora’s 50th and final professional fight. However, following his competitive showing against the “Bronze Bomber,” Chisora may continue. Chisora (35-15) pushed Wilder to the absolute limit, with one judge scoring the fight for him. Dillian Whyte, someone who has faced Chisora, was happy with what was shown by both men.

“It was a good fight, they was just having it. Listen, when you get two guys that are a little bit long in the tooth, you never sit there and think that there is going to be a lot of skill, a lot of moving, a lot of jumping around – it was what I expected. I’m surprised that Wilder was getting caught with some of those overhands that Derek was throwing – he was throwing them back from Zimbabwe! And Wilder couldn’t move out of the way. I enjoyed it, I was laughing and it was an enjoyable fight. I think that the people got their money’s worth,” Whyte said

Will It Happen?

The narrow margin has convinced Chisora that he can win a second bout if he makes minor tactical adjustments. After being knocked through the ropes in the eighth, Chisora’s recovery became a rallying cry for his supporters. If a rematch is signed, it would render the commemorative “50 & Out” merchandise and branding essentially meaningless.

“I’m very upset with the scoring. The two knockdowns I give him were pushes. The ropes were so loose. It was just an embarrassment. I’m not happy with that. The whole thing was a shambles on my side and his side as well. But I want to get a rematch. Yes,” Chisora said
