After assaulting Conor Benn with an egg during a contentious news conference last month, Chris Eubank Jr. was fined £100,000 for the incident.
A statement issued by the board stated, "After a hearing with the British Boxing Board of Control stewards, Chris Eubank Jr was found guilty of breaching regulation 25 (misconduct) due to his actions at the press conference in Manchester for his fight against Conor Benn on April 26, 2025.’’
Eubank took an egg out of his pocket and used his left hand to slap Benn across the cheek during their face-off in Manchester on February 25th. Benn lost his anger with his father Nigel by his side, and security personnel had to intervene to keep the two combatants apart.
After Benn failed a voluntary drug test, their October 2022 fight was canceled, sparking a two-year battle with anti-doping officials. In November, his ban was eventually lifted. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) is testing both competitors for their impending bout, and Benn has repeatedly denied intentionally utilizing performance-enhancing chemicals.
The WBC's independent investigation from February 2023 concluded that the 28-year-old's failing drug test was an accident that may have been caused by eating too many eggs.
In addition to aggravating Benn, Eubank Jr.'s egg-hitting was a jab at the WBC's assertion that Benn's positive drug test could have been the result of eating too many eggs, a suggestion that Benn later rejected.
On social media, Eubank wrote, "It appears that his two failed drug tests were caused by egg contamination. In order to contaminate him, I used an egg. '' and posted it with a clip of the incident. Two days later, the 34-3 boxer justified his actions at another press conference.
"Did I go too far?" he asked. I believe there have been a lot of lines crossed in this whole affair. I consider it mild to throw an egg at someone who made the absurd allegation that it was the reason he failed his drug tests. I would do it again if I had the chance because he deserved the humiliation. Regretfully, I have nothing to offer today. I was searched several times and was unable to smuggle any in.''
In spite of the £100,000 punishment, Eubank Jr. posted on social media the following day, saying, "Worth every penny."
The sons of British boxing greats Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, who are well-known for their own fierce rivalry, will square off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, April 26.
