On July 26 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI, Claressa Shields (17-0, 3 KOs) made a successful first defence of her undisputed heavyweight status, defeating Lani Daniels (11-3-2, 1 KO). Shields is now a free agent, leaving long-time promoter Dmitry Salita of Salita Promotions. As speculation increases regarding Shields’ future, the self-proclaimed GWOAT has appeared on the Ariel x Ade DAZN Boxing Show, discussing her future and her feelings towards potentially signing with Most Valuable Promotions.
Shields remained undisputed heavyweight champion with a dominating victory against Daniels. The judges’ scorecards read 100-90 and 99-91 x2. She achieved the undisputed heavyweight crown when she defeated Danielle Perkins.
The GWOAT was in control for much of the fight, with Daniels reluctant to engage for the opening few rounds. The class of Shields shone through, and she showcased her class more as the fight progressed.
When discussing Most Valuable Promotions, Shields refused to close the door on potentially signing with them: “I am interested in talking to everybody, to see what their what their vision is for me. If their vision doesn’t align with my vision, then’ll I’ll walk away. I don’t got any smoke with any of these entities, MVP, whoever. I don’t wanna smoke with nobody.”
Recently, MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian appeared on the Ariel x Ade DAZN Boxing Show, where he teased the possibility of working with Claressa Shields in the future: “100%. The fight with Claressa and Shadasia makes a lot of sense, 100%. Shadasia vs Savannah again makes a lot of sense.
“I see no reason why we wouldn’t do a deal with Claressa Shields, once she gets through July 26th (against Lani Daniels), to make her versus Shadasia Green happen,” added Bidarian.More must-reads:
