Before he became an all-time great in the UFC, Daniel Cormier went through three opponents in three weeks to make his name in the MMA sphere.
Before his success as a champion in both the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions, Daniel Cormier was a champion amateur wrestler trying to make it in professional MMA.
Cormier followed his college rival Brock Lesnar into MMA, impressing in his early fights and quickly earning his spot in the UFC.
The highlight of this run was a three-week period where he dominated three different men on the opposite sides of the world.
After going 2-0 at the start of his MMA career, Cormier embarked on a journey that took him across the globe for three bouts in as many weeks.
He kicked this off by traveling to Australia to compete for the XMMA Heavyweight title in Sydney. This was the first of three bouts that didn’t make it past the first round.
Cormier decimated former Heavyweight boxing champion Lucas Browne, who was 5-0 in the octagon, in their fight on July 31, 2010.
He took him down multiple times, especially at the end of the first round when Cormier mounted the boxer, forcing the referee to call the fight off after a ground-and-pound made Browne’s position untenable.
Two weeks later, Cormier was in New Mexico to choke out Tony Johnson just two minutes into their fight at KOTC: Imminent Danger.
Cormier dominated as you’d expect and picked up another title – the KOTC Heavyweight belt – to add to the championship he’d won in Australia two weeks prior by applying a rear-naked choke to Johnson in the first round.
He rounded off this busy three-week period with a trip to Houston, Texas, for his third appearance in Strikeforce. Cormier won the first two bouts by knockout and TKO, so fans should have seen this result coming a mile away.
Shrugging off what must have been exhaustion from his first two bouts of that month, Cormier beat Jason Riley in 62 seconds to prove himself to be a top Heavyweight yet again.
After an early grappling exchange, Cormier managed to take down Riley before laying in a series of massive fists into him, knocking him out and forcing the referee to step in.
This win ended a busy three weeks for the future UFC Champion, picking up three victories, each one more impressive than the last.
After a four-year run in Strikeforce that saw him win the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament, Cormier signed a deal with the UFC to compete in the Heavyweight division.
His first fight could hardly have been tougher, as DC was given the chance to take on former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir.
Mir had already beaten Cormier’s wrestling rival Lesnar years earlier, but was reeling from his recent title loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 146.

Cormier would not make things any better, as he outfought Mir over three rounds on his UFC debut to pick up a unanimous decision victory.
He used his amateur wrestling skills to dominate the former champion, although despite the uneventful nature of the bout, Cormier walked away after winning all three rounds.
