The Ukrainian fighter, Oleksandr Usyk has seen off the predicaments of both Daniel Dubois as well as Anthony Joshua. Usyk is the current unified world heavyweight titlist. He has a prolific boxing career. He remains undefeated in the professional ranks having cleaned out the cruiserweight category to become undisputed before cascading that feat up in the banner class.
Moreover, Usyk knocked out Dubois in August 2023 in spite of being down for considerable minutes after what the judge ruled as a low blow, having already dispatched ‘AJ’ in two instances over 12 rounds.
Meanwhile, Daniel Dubois retained his IBF world belt in distressing fashion at Wembley Stadium in September with a splendid fifth-round knockout of Anthony Joshua.
Dubois histrionically dismantled fellow Brit Anthony Joshua in five rounds to propel himself into global sporting arena in front of 96,000 enthusiasts at Wembley Stadium.
The 27-year-old boxer dropped Joshua several times to retain the IBF heavyweight belt and left his domestic opponent’s career in shells.
"Are you not entertained?" Dubois screamed post-fight, to enormous cheers in the packed-out stadium.
"I'm a gladiator. I am a warrior to the bitter end. I want to get to the top level of this sport and reach my potential," he said.
Joshua decided not to take an instant replay at the time, but that is a bout that is now a tangible possibility for Dubois as he aspires to resume to action following an illness that kept him out of his planned contest with Joseph Parker last month.
Daniel Dubois' knockout win over Anthony Joshua might just have been a passing of the torch flash for heavyweight fighting. The win left Joshua's resurgent professional career in tatters, while affirming Dubois as the new top man in British heavyweight boxing space.
Elsewhere, the two-time world title-holder’s promoter Eddie Hearn had previously indicated that they are frantic to try and retaliate their loss to Dubois and that other than a contest with Fury, that was the only clash they were actively pursuing.
Hearn had initially hoped to get Joshua, 35, out again this summer but the Matchroom CEO has now revealed that the UK boxer has suffered a set back in his bid to get back in the ring - and that could have major repercussions on him landing a world title shot again this year.
“There is always a chance. In the first fight, Daniel was the winner. It’s sport. If there is another fight and I am not a great predictor it will be interesting to see another fight between Joshua and Dubois - a revenge match,” said Usyk when asked about the idea of a potential fight with Daniel Dubios and Anthony Joshua. Usyk was responding during an interview with Riz Khan on Al Arabiya News.
On the other hand, IBF will inform Dubois on approximately April 22 of his June 21 compulsory.
The IBF regulations indicate the titleholder "shall be obligated to mandatorily defend his championship within intervals of no more than nine months against the leading available contender in the heavyweight division as designated by the championships chairman".
