On February 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) was due to defend his IBF world title against Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs). “Dynamite” withdrew from the bout days before due to illness, leaving Martin Bakole to step in. Many questions have been asked since then about what will be next for Dubois, with bouts against Oleksandr Usyk and Derek Chisora Mentioned. Heavyweight rival Dillian Whyte has spoken to Seconds Out sharing his brutally honest thoughts on a potential Chisora vs Dubois fight.
Dubois is the current IBF world heavyweight champion and has made it clear he would prefer a rematch with Usyk (undisputed), which would supersede the mandatory defence against Chisora.
The IBF recently spoke to Sky Sports to clarify their mandatory: “Derek Chisora is the mandatory challenger for Daniel Dubois but the mandatory bout is due to be ordered on April 22. There is not enough time for an eliminator since Dubois’ mandatory is due on June 21.”
Speaking to Seconds Out, heavyweight fighter Dillian Whyte has given his brutal opinion on that potential fight:
“Dubois will kill Derek. He might actually die. Seriously. There are bigger and better fights for Dubois to take right now,”said Whyte.
“It’s just business. Derek Chisora is at the bottom of that list. There are bigger and better guys at the top of the list,”added Whyte.
Whether Chisora retires after fight number 50 remains to be seen, but “Del Boy” looks set to gain a world title shot for his 50th fight. His mandatory position with the IBF has been ridiculed by some. “War” has enjoyed a memorable career, with eye-catching KOs in the ring to flipping tables at pre-fight press conferences. Chisora is loved by many and win, lose or draw in fight 50, his legacy as one of the toughest heavyweights will live on.
